Emma Bridgewater

Hand-decorated pottery in Stoke-on-Trent since 1985, with personalized mugs, tableware, factory tours, a decorating studio, and a café.

About Emma Bridgewater

The search for a beautiful everyday mug gave rise to Emma Bridgewater in 1985. The company turned that idea into a collection of hand-decorated pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. Mugs, plates, and jugs bring polka dots, hearts, flowers, and lettering to objects intended for everyday tables and gifts tied to a person or celebration.

The pottery begins with cream-colored earthenware. Clay is prepared as slip, poured into molds, and hand-finished before firing. Decoration uses hand-cut sponges for motifs such as Polka Dot, or ceramic transfers for more detailed illustrations. Glazing and final inspection complete each piece’s journey.

The collection includes mugs in several sizes, bowls, plates, jugs, teapots, and containers. Toast & Marmalade, Pink Hearts, and Blue Star coexist with seasonal designs and animals or plants. Collaborations and collections such as Peter Rabbit expand the catalog. Personalization adds names or messages to selected pottery formats.

Home accessories include kitchen textiles, trays, tins, glassware, and enamel cookware. There are calendars, cards, wrapping, and decorative objects, alongside pet products. The outlet distinguishes discontinued pieces and second-quality pottery, whose small faults may be in the finish, decoration, or shape rather than the structure.

The visitor factory is on Lichfield Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on a pottery site opened by the Meakin brothers in 1883. Guided tours last about an hour and show production work. The decorating studio offers sessions for decorating a piece, and experiences can combine a tour, workshop, and afternoon tea.

The site brings together shops, a café, and a garden. Customer parking is accessed from Pelham Street and includes accessible spaces. Factory tours require advance reservations and are suitable for children over five; the working environment has ramps and cannot accommodate strollers on the tour. The studio, shops, and café have accessible routes.

Order support is at a different address: 50 Whittle Road, Meir Park, Stoke-on-Trent, ST3 7TU. The Collectors Club offers exclusive pieces, news, and events. Emma Bridgewater connects two complementary paths: choosing an object for the table and visiting the place where it is molded, decorated, and fired within Staffordshire’s pottery tradition.
