Purrform

Purrform, complete raw food for cats

Purrform is a British company specialising in raw cat food. Its products are presented as complete foods that cover daily vitamin and mineral needs, so they do not need to be combined with other wet or dry food. The company states that its recipes are made with human-grade meat, bone and offal, with no preservatives or flavour enhancers, and that they are recommended by vets.

Available formats and ranges

The catalogue is organised into several formats and ranges:

• 70 g pouches: available in standard and premium flavours, designed for households with one or two cats. The meat, bone and offal are minced, quickly frozen and vacuum-packed.
• 450 g tubs: for households with several cats, with varieties for adults and kittens. The adult version has a coarser meat and bone texture, while the kitten version is finer and contains smaller bone fragments.
• 250 g tubs: a complementary, bone-free range suitable for adults and kittens, which can be completed with the brand's powdered supplement.
• 5 Days Fresh pouches: 300 g format in four flavours.
• Trial packs: options for adults and kittens.
• Supplements: natural additions to the diet.

The company also sells raw treats, accessories, toys and sanitisers.

Life stages and ages

Recipes for adult cats are suitable from 9 months. Kitten varieties cover from 3 to 9 months. There is also a weaning range. Products are organised by life stage (senior, adult, kitten and weaning) and by type (complete or complementary), with standard, premium and bone-free options.

Composition and feeding philosophy

Purrform maintains that cats are obligate carnivores and that its recipes aim to replicate the diet they would follow in the wild by eating whole prey. The company notes that raw cat food should not follow the 80:10:10 rule, which is associated with dog feeding, but that its products combine meat, bone, offal and natural nutrients to achieve a balanced diet. The average bone content in its products is around 8%. The recipes do not include grains, fillers, flavour enhancers, vegetables or herbs. The company highlights that many of its recipes contain rabbit, a lean, high-protein meat, and that its foods are naturally rich in moisture and taurine, so no additional taurine is needed.

Production process

The ingredients are minced fresh and immediately frozen using blast freezing to preserve flavour and achieve a soft texture when defrosted. The company declares full transparency about the composition of its products.

Customer support services

Purrform offers online calculators to determine the amount of food according to the cat, including a dry matter basis calculator. It has a support centre, resources, FAQs, a traceability guide and a feline grimace scale. It also has programmes for breeders and the trade channel, as well as a network of stockists.
