Real Beams

Oak fireplace beams and solid wood shelving

Real Beams is a British manufacturer specialising in oak beams for fireplace mantels and solid wood shelving. Its catalogue is organised into two collections: oak beams, with seven products, and real wood shelving, with seventeen lines. The company presents itself as a supplier to both private customers and the trade, and states that its products are made in Britain.

Fireplace beam catalogue

The beam range includes traditional, contemporary, squared, rounded, shaped and shelf-style models, as well as a reclaimed oak line. The catalogue shows starting prices ranging from £68.99 for the reclaimed oak fireplace beam and the squared beam, up to £211.99 for the contemporary beam. Intermediate lines include the traditional beam from £69.99, the shaped beam from £144.99, the shelf-style beam from £149.99 and the rounded mantel from £149.99.

Oak and pine shelving

The shelving line combines solid oak and pine, with rustic and contemporary finishes. The catalogue includes 32 mm solid oak floating shelves, 15 or 20 cm rustic floating shelves, 50 mm thick rustic chunky shelves, 15 cm radiator shelves, square shelves with steel brackets and 32 mm reclaimed oak shelves. Starting prices in this collection begin at £39.89 for the rustic models and reach £62.99 for the square edge shelf with steel brackets. The company also sells an oak colour sample pack for £9.99.

Handcrafted manufacturing and cut-to-size service

According to the company's information, each beam is handmade and unique. The beams are produced from air-dried oak, so they contain splits and cracks which, according to the company itself, are part of the wood's natural character and may increase over time. Real Beams recommends leaving the beam at room temperature for two weeks before installation. The company offers a free cut-to-size service: customers can request by email or phone that the timber be cut to specific dimensions.

Shipping, lead times and returns

The site states that all orders include free shipping and that most beams are dispatched within up to fourteen working days, via Parcelforce, with notification to the customer at the time of dispatch. The returns policy allows the product to be returned within fourteen days of delivery, provided it has not been used and retains the original packaging and fittings; return costs are borne by the customer and shipping is non-refundable. The company asks customers to make contact before any return.

Wholesale and customer service

Real Beams has a dedicated trade account, with trade discounts, and presents itself as a trusted supplier for the trade. The company handles enquiries by email and phone and states that it aims to respond the same working day. Its opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00.
