Topsoil.co.uk, online supply of topsoil, turf and landscaping aggregates

Topsoil.co.uk is the online store of Topsoil Direct Ltd, based at Breighton Airfield, Bubwith, Selby (North Yorkshire). The company presents itself as one of the UK's leading suppliers of topsoil and gardening products, and supports its activity with almost 50 years of horticultural experience. Its catalogue is aimed at both professional landscaping projects and individuals renovating their garden, and orders are delivered to the customer's site, business or home.

Catalogue: turf, growing media and decorative aggregates

The range is organised into several product families. Fresh garden turf is sold in 1 m² rolls, with a catalogue price from £2.59 per roll, and also in LawnPak format, which brings together ten rolls of turf and a bulk bag of blended topsoil to cover 10 m² of lawn. Blended topsoil is presented as a fertile, peat-free, organic-rich, multi-purpose growing medium, suitable for general planting and landscaping.

Bulk compost is described as a 100% natural, peat-free, multi-purpose product with PAS100 certification, indicated as a soil improver, for transplanting and for pots. Wood chips, obtained from chipped white wood, are marketed as a versatile product for chicken runs, paths and mulching, with natural drainage. Mulch is a shredded product of mid-brown colour, designed to mulch beds and borders, suppress weeds and protect roots from frost. The range is completed by kiln-dried sand, small 'handy' bags and decorative aggregates such as 16 mm green granite chippings, 20 mm Blossom chippings —peach, pink, grey and white marble tones— and 20 mm Black Ice, which combine grey marble and black basalt.

Twinstak®, the system that reduces delivery costs

The differentiating element highlighted by the company is its patented Twinstak® technology, a stacking system that allows you to order two bulk bags of the same product on a single pallet. This avoids the cost of a second pallet delivery and, according to the company, generates savings of up to £79.99. The catalogue shows prices per unit and per Twinstak pair: blended topsoil goes from £93.99 for the individual bag to £68 each in double format; compost, from £93.99 to £68; mulch, from £109.99 to £70; and wood chips, from £114.99 to £78.50. The prices indicated include VAT and delivery.

Free delivery and chosen date

The store offers free standard delivery and free delivery on a specific day, which the customer selects at checkout. The site indicated that orders placed before 15:00 could opt for Saturday delivery that same weekend. The company notes that free delivery applies to all addresses within its delivery area.

Buying tools and customer service

Product pages include a calculator that, based on the length, width and depth entered, indicates the required amount of material. The website also brings together frequently asked questions, delivery information and a resources section with articles, including a guide to decorative aggregates and a tool to calculate turf rolls and bulk bags. The company states that its team —from operations to drivers— supports the customer throughout the project, and offers a contact form for enquiries requesting name, organisation, phone, email and message.

Quality and responsible origin

Topsoil.co.uk states that its topsoil is safe, fertile and high quality, and that it is tested in accordance with BS3882:2015. The company presents itself as a supplier of responsibly sourced products and stresses that its offer combines competitive price and quality without sacrificing the latter.
