The building has a unique history before its use as accommodation. According to documentation cited by the house itself, it was the first home in Britain to have a telephone installed and connected to an underground site. In 1877, the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell, made the first experimental telephone call from here to the local coal mine.

The property does not accept stag, hen or similar parties; breach of this rule leads to immediate cancellation of the booking, even on arrival, with no refund. The house indicated a 10% discount promotion for stays of three days or more.
