History: from Lloyd's Syndicate 260 to DUAL UK
The company's history dates back to 1957, when Lloyd's underwriter Kenneth Gordon McNeil founded Lloyd's syndicate 260, KGM Motor Policies, at Lloyd's Avenue in the City of London. The project's origins are linked to the desire to design motor insurance with broker service in mind.
The timeline published by the company itself includes milestones such as Lloyd's opening up to non-market brokers in 1966, expansion to larger offices in South Woodford in 1971, its 25th anniversary in 1982, the launch of its first website in 2004 and joining the Howden group in 2021, the year in which it exceeded £100 million in premium written. The firm states it has more than 60 years of experience in solving specialist problems and presents itself as one of the UK's largest motor MGAs, with more than 1,000 brokers and half a million policyholders, and more than £200 million in gross written premiums.
Market recognition
KGM details several awards and ratings obtained in the sector. At the UK Broker Awards 2025 it received the Broker Choice: MGA of the Year award, voted for by brokers. In the Insurance Times MGA survey it maintained a five-star rating in the 2025/26 edition, the fourth consecutive, and in the 2024/25 edition it also obtained five stars. It also lists the MGA of the Year recognition at the British Insurance Awards 2026.
Broker operations and claims management
The company provides intermediaries with a broker portal and various online quoting tools, as well as face-to-face support, to build tailored cover. Brokers can contact underwriters with immediate decision-making authority directly. For policyholders, claims management is channelled through a dedicated claims phone number and email address, and it states that clients with existing policies should contact their intermediary for any queries about them.
