About LEI Universal
LEI Universal: LEI registration agent
LEI Universal is a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) registration agent operating through the domain leiuniversal.co.uk. The company handles LEI applications, renewals and transfers of existing numbers, and offers a search tool to find companies or identifiers directly in its database. According to its own presentation, it follows GLEIF global standards and serves clients in major European markets, with customer support in English.
What an LEI number is and who needs one
An LEI is a 20-character code that uniquely identifies a legal entity participating in financial transactions anywhere in the world. It was introduced to improve transparency and reduce risk in global financial markets. Every LEI issued under the GLEIF system is recognised in more than 200 jurisdictions, so the same identifier remains valid regardless of the country in which you operate.
In the United Kingdom, a company subject to UK MiFIR rules cannot execute a reportable transaction for a client that is an eligible legal entity and lacks an LEI. The website notes that the relevant bank or broker can confirm whether a specific transaction requires this identifier.
Application, renewal and transfer services
The platform allows you to apply for a new LEI, renew an existing one and transfer a number managed by another provider. The transfer is free, while the fees shown apply only if the LEI is also renewed. The application process is completed online and, according to the company, 90% of numbers are issued the same day, with issuance in under an hour in most cases. Applications submitted before 18:00 are processed the same business day.
The form collects company details (name, registration number, address, city, postcode, email and phone), the contact details of the applicant and, where applicable, information about the headquarters and the ownership structure. For funds without a registration number, the website states that you must enter "FOND" in the corresponding field and that supporting documents are requested after the application is received.
Parent company data and validation
The form includes specific sections to declare whether the owners are exclusively natural persons, whether there is a parent entity and whether that parent consolidates the company's accounts. When parent company (Level 2) details are available, validation of that data costs £10 per parent company per year and may take up to 48 hours. The website also covers exception cases in which parent information is not disclosed, such as legal or regulatory restrictions, lack of consent from the parent, contractual commitments or risk of detriment to the entity or its parent.
Published plans and pricing
The pricing page shows three renewal options: one year at £35, three years at £30 per year (£90 in total) and five years at £29 per year (£145 in total), the latter presented as the best-value option. The company states that prices are clear with no hidden fees, that the GLEIF fee is included and that longer plans come with lower rates, saving up to 22%. Payment can be made by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal.
Declared profile and reviews
LEI Universal claims to have been used by more than 1,000 companies and holds a score of 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot. Among the testimonials on its website is that of Aaron Hamblet, of AnyoneNowadays Ltd., who describes the process as fast, easy to use and reliable. The company states that no user account is required to complete the application and that registration is carried out in the GLEIF database.
