About Hepworth Brewery
Andy Hepworth founded his brewery in 2000 and moved it to new facilities in 2016. Hepworth Brewery maintains its Sussex connection through local ingredients and production combining traditional recipes with filtration and energy-efficient processes. In Pulborough, the brewery includes a shop, taproom, and tours explaining how raw ingredients become beer.
Sussex Pale Ale, with 3.5% alcohol, brings together malted barley and Golding and Admiral hops. The brand presents it as a classic pale ale tied to regional ingredients. Prospect Pale Ale, at 4.5%, offers another reference: it matures in the bottle and develops a bitter profile balanced with Sussex barley malt. Both show differences in recipe and finish within the range.
Blonde Lager, at 5%, uses organically grown hops and cold filtration. The brand’s listing identifies it as organic and gluten-free. Spartan Ale adds a 0.5% option with Golding and other hops, as well as agave. The alcohol levels distinguish that choice from the regular beers without confusing it with a zero-alcohol product.
Product characteristics also change by format. Bottles of certain recipes are identified as gluten-free, but the company expressly excludes mini kegs and polypins from that designation. The shop carries individual bottles, cases, mini kegs, and larger containers. This distinction supports choosing both a style and a quantity appropriate for sharing.
Suppliers are part of the brewery’s story. Hepworth describes Sussex hops and organic barley from Goodwood, and notes field visits and supply agreements. The company produces some of its energy, conserves water, and recycles waste through its own processes. These practices accompany brewing and explain its interest in linking production with the surrounding region.
Guided tours cover brewing stages and introduce the factory’s operation. The shop and taproom offer beer to taste or bottles to take home at Stane Street, Pulborough, RH20 1DJ. Their hours differ from the industrial operation, a useful distinction for planning a stop or reserving an experience.
Online sales bring together beer, gifts, and branded merchandise. Contract brewing serves other businesses from initial consultation through production, packaging, and distribution. Hepworth thus serves two audiences: people seeking a Sussex beer and businesses needing a partner to develop their own brand. The continuity between ingredients, recipe, and process connects both kinds of work.
