Healthcare and first aid training in Yorkshire

Castleford Training Solutions (CTS) is a training company based in West Yorkshire that delivers courses in first aid, prehospital care, mental health and social care. The company was founded in 2020 with the initial aim of training NHS staff in psychological first aid, and from there it expanded its catalogue in response to demand for structured, participatory local training.

Training areas

CTS's catalogue covers several course families:

• First aid: Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) with anaphylaxis, First Aid at Work (FAW) and forestry first aid.
• Prehospital care: First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3 and FREC 4), as well as FREC 3 requalifications.
• Life support: Basic Life Support (BLS) with medical emergencies and Immediate Life Support (ILS) with medical emergencies.
• CPD: a series of short courses under the names "Understanding", "Simply" and "What is", covering topics such as ECG, breathing, medication, catastrophic bleeding, sepsis, trauma and analgesia.
• Mental health, health and safety, and safeguarding: training in mental health, workplace health and safety, and protection and social care.
• Medication administration: specific courses on medication administration and Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (SALM).

Event medical cover

In addition to training, CTS provides event medical cover services, from parties and galas to sports competitions, adjusting the level of healthcare provision to the needs of each event.

Team and methodology

The company combines its own trainers with specialised external instructors who join as needed for each course. All trainers hold an enhanced DBS certificate and teaching qualifications, and many come from the front line of medical care or the emergency services, such as paramedics or firefighters. The management team consists of Shaun Allatt, co-owner and lead trainer, with military experience and as a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service; Jen Allatt, co-owner responsible for daily operations and finances, with experience in adult social care, dementia, Alzheimer's, learning difficulties and autism; and Nathan Allatt, responsible for the technical area, IT support, social media management and web design.

Presence and reach

CTS operates from its office in Pontefract and offers training in various locations across Yorkshire, including York, Wakefield, Pontefract and Huddersfield. The company states that it can handle both local and national contracts.
