GrowTropicals

GrowTropicals, online nursery for tropical and exotic plants for the UK

GrowTropicals is a nursery that operates exclusively through its online store and distributes plants throughout the UK. Its catalogue is organised into three main areas: indoor plants, hardy outdoor plants and plant care products. The company presents itself as a gold medalist at RHS Chelsea 2026 and offers a seven-day live arrival guarantee.

Indoor plants and collector's collections

The indoor catalogue is classified by pot size, from baby plants of 6-7 cm to XL specimens over 20 cm. The selection includes categories by characteristics —pet and child safe, hanging, great for bathrooms, sun loving, shade tolerant, climbing and easy care— and specific collections such as latest restock, tissue culture plants, rare and unusual, rescue and imperfect plants and subscription boxes.

Among the most popular genera are Alocasia, Anthurium, Hoya, Monstera and Philodendron. The company states it has over 2,900 aroids, anthuriums and rarities for collectors, and a changing collection of over 5,000 rare and unusual plants.

Hardy outdoor plants for British gardens

The outdoor section, called Hardy Exotics, groups plants capable of withstanding UK winters. It is organised by type —hardy palms, tree ferns, hardy ferns, bamboo, ornamental grasses, hardy bananas and musa— and by specific plant, with sections for hostas, fatsia, Japanese maples, yucca, canna lilies and aeonium.

They are also classified by characteristics: full sun, shade and woodland, coastal and exposed, dry and gravel, pots and patios, screening and privacy, wildlife and pollinators, exotic borders, architectural plants, hardy perennials, hardy climbers, agave and succulents, exotic bulbs and tubers and hardy exotic shrubs. There is also a selection by colour: red, orange, yellow, pink, purple, blue and white.

Plant care, substrates and equipment

The plant care section includes substrates and potting mixes, soil components, plant food and fertilisers, gardening tools, growth support, grow lights, moss poles, propagation equipment, environment controllers, humidifiers and grow tents. The shop sells clear nursery pots, decorative planters, self-watering pots and hanging pots, in materials such as ceramic and glazed, plastic and metal, and from brands such as Aaron Probyn, POTR, Bloomingville, Ivyline and Lechuza.

The catalogue is completed with accessories, gifts, houseplant books, e-gift cards, terrariums, terrarium plants and Mistking systems.

Promotions and bundles

The shop indicated several volume offers: four houseplants for £30, three rare plants for £40, 15% off when buying four potting mixes and 10% off when buying four houseplants. It also offered a Monstera Obliqua Peru worth £12.99 on orders over £50.

Business services and educational content

GrowTropicals has a business line that includes supplying plants for offices and corporate spaces, the possibility of becoming a stockist and a terrarium building service.

The company maintains an educational area called The Plant Academy, with indoor and outdoor growing guides, an A-Z soil index, a soil calculator, a lighting guide, houseplant tips and tricks, a blog called Growing Tropicals and care sheets by genus (Alocasia, Anthurium, Begonia, Hoya, Monstera, Philodendron and Zamioculcas). It also offers a pest hub with an interactive identifier and sheets on spider mites, thrips, mealybugs and aphids.
