About Marleybones
Marleybones: fresh dog food delivered to your door
Marleybones is a dog food company that sells fresh food made with natural ingredients and ships it directly to the customer's home through a subscription system. Its offering is built around the Pantry Fresh® line, whose products are shelf-stable and need no refrigeration or freezing before opening.
Recipes and composition
The meal range includes four varieties: chicken, lamb, beef and salmon. All are presented as complete meals formulated to meet a dog's daily nutritional needs, developed with pet care professionals, including a veterinary nutritionist (DVM, PhD). The recipes contain no grains, fillers, preservatives or artificial additives, and include at least 60% fresh meat or fish in every serving.
The detailed composition published by the company is as follows:
- Beef: beef 60%, carrot 6.5%, sweet potato 4%, quinoa 3%, broccoli 1.3%, rosemary 0.8%, minerals, chia seeds 0.6%, flaxseed 0.5%, hemp seeds 0.3%, chicory root and yucca.
- Chicken: chicken 60%, carrot 6.5%, peas 4%, quinoa 3%, broccoli 1.3%, sage 0.8%, chia seeds 0.6%, flaxseed 0.5%, hemp seeds 0.3%, chicory root and yucca.
- Lamb: lamb 60%, carrot 6.5%, sweet potato 4%, quinoa 3%, broccoli 1.3%, rosemary 0.8%, chia seeds 0.6%, flaxseed 0.5%, hemp seeds 0.3%, chicory root and yucca.
- Salmon: salmon 42%, white fish 18%, carrot 6.5%, peas 4%, quinoa 3%, broccoli 1.3%, parsley 0.8%, chia seeds 0.6%, flaxseed 0.5%, hemp seeds 0.3%, chicory root and yucca.
Quinoa is used as a grain-free base, since it is technically a seed and not a grain. The company states that none of its recipes have ever contained buckwheat.
Production method and storage
The ingredients are sealed raw inside the packaging and gently steam-cooked within it, a process that eliminates harmful bacteria while preserving nutrients and flavour. The company states that this method avoids the high-temperature processing typical of extruded kibble or traditional cans. The result is servings that are shelf-stable; once the pack is opened, the product stays fresh in the fridge for 48 hours. No defrosting or planning ahead is needed.
Treats and supplements
In addition to meals, Marleybones sells natural air-dried treats that preserve flavour and nutrients. Each treat provides 6 kcal and is designed for daily rewards and training. They contain no artificial additives and are enriched with superfoods and herbs. The company also offers supplements and oils formulated to support dental, digestive and joint health, with natural, science-backed ingredients. They come as soft chew treats, with no pills or powders.
How the subscription works
The process starts with a questionnaire in which the customer answers questions about their dog's health, preferences and allergies. From there, the company builds a personalised plan and a Starter Box with Pantry Fresh® meals, optional add-ons and treats. The customer has 14 days to try the box before the next order and can edit, skip or cancel the subscription at any time from their account, with no phone calls required. Deliveries arrive next day, and recurring subscription orders over £50 include free express delivery. By default, boxes arrive every four weeks, although the interval is adjustable.
Company-reported data
Marleybones states that its products are made in the UK with plastic-free packaging. According to its own survey of more than 1,000 customers, 95% of fussy dogs now enjoy their meals, 47% show more energy, 71% have better digestion and 98% of respondents say they are happy with the switch. The company also notes that more than 12,000 customers have used its services. It further states that it has never changed a recipe or issued a product recall, and that if that were ever to happen it would notify customers by email and update the relevant page.
