About Hartwood Timber

Hartwood Timber: bespoke artisan joinery in Cornwall

Hartwood Timber is a family-run business with a workshop in Cornwall dedicated to creating unique, personalised wooden products. Every piece is made from scratch, with no mass production, combining traditional woodworking techniques with state-of-the-art CNC technology. The company selects first-class hardwoods such as beech, cherry and maple, and works closely with local suppliers and sawmills.

Products and specialities

The catalogue covers a wide range of wooden items, all of them customisable. The main categories include:

  • Signs and plaques: wall, door, hanging and painted signs; farm, entrance and estate signs; plaques and memorials; boat, kids, kennel and stable signs; house and business signs.
  • Chopping boards: oak chopping, bread and cheese boards, available in artisan and essential ranges.
  • Gifts: ideas for Christmas, Father's Day, Mother's Day and personalised gifts for any occasion.
  • Kitchen accessories: worktop accessories.
  • Wood care: oils and lacquers for product maintenance.
  • One-off items: unique pieces and surf, skate and balance products.
  • Garden: wooden outdoor items.

The company also offers bespoke joinery services for specific projects.

Production process

Every product starts with hand-selecting the wood, chosen for its natural beauty and subjected to quality checks. The team then decides how to cut the piece to highlight its grain and colour. Manufacturing combines traditional skills with precision CNC machinery, and all items are finished and polished by hand. Due to the nature of wood, no two pieces are identical: variations in tone and grain make each product unique.

History and background

The owner, Rob Joslin, developed his passion for woodworking while working in a timber workshop. In 2013 he decided to start his own business to share his talent for creating quality wooden products. Since then, Hartwood Timber has maintained an artisan and sustainable approach, with special attention to every stage of the process, from wood selection to the final finish.

Sustainability and commitment

The company uses sustainably sourced wood, purchased from local suppliers, and applies ethical criteria in the choice of materials. Its commitment to quality and customer service is reflected in personalised attention and the possibility of shipping both within the UK and abroad.

Recognition

Hartwood Timber has received a BIG2 grant from the European Regional Development Fund, a endorsement of its dedication and the quality of its tools and processes.
