Micro Exotics

Micro Exotics, terrariums and microfauna in Cornwall

Micro Exotics is a British supplier of materials and live creatures for miniature ecosystems. The company presents itself as a specialist in isopods and terrariums, selling both in the UK and Europe, and combines online retail with the organisation of in-person terrarium workshops.

Its catalogue is built around two main areas: on the one hand, the live invertebrates that the firm calls the "custodians" of the micro-ecosystem; on the other, the containers, substrates and plants needed to set them up. The company states it has years of experience in keeping and breeding exotic plants and animals, both at home and within the industry.

Invertebrates and microfauna

The invertebrate section includes isopods, millipedes, springtails, spiders, cockroaches, mantis and other species grouped under the label "other inverts". The company has a dedicated section explaining the differences between the various common names for the woodlouse and the reasons why these crustaceans and other micro-invertebrates are suitable inhabitants for the microcosms it sells.

Terrariums, kits and plants

The terrarium and bottle garden range is complemented by substrates, accent pieces, DIY kits and a plant selection covering climbers, ferns, begonias, foliage and mosses, including a category of special and large-format mosses. The company also sells gift vouchers and runs terrarium workshops.

The catalogue is presented as an accessible proposition for those who want to bring a fragment of tropical rainforest into their home, with affordable materials and products being added weekly. Featured formats include stylish self-contained ecosystem lamps for desks, described as low maintenance and low cost, as well as DIY kits.

Shipping and live arrival guarantee

Orders are shipped collectively on Mondays and Tuesdays, regardless of the delivery method chosen, and the company limits shipping to the UK. The website includes a live arrival guarantee that the customer must read before placing an order. The site also advertises 10% off a first order using a promotional code.
