Suttons

Suttons began in Reading in 1806, when John Sutton founded House of Sutton to grow and supply grain. His sons later encouraged expansion into flower and vegetable seeds, and the business opened a germination and purity laboratory in 1840. Operations moved to Devon during the twentieth century and reached Paignton in 1998, where its current contact address remains.

Vegetable seeds occupy an extensive section: tomatoes, lettuce, beans, peas, carrots, cabbages, squash, and herbs, among other families. Collections distinguish fast-growing varieties, organic seeds, heirloom tomatoes, and children’s options. Patio, windowsill, and square-meter gardening categories help customers search by available space.

Vegetable plugs and plants provide an alternative to starting with seeds. Tomatoes, chilies, cucumbers, and asparagus are among the options. Grafted plants and vegetable collections form another part of the offering. Raspberries, strawberries, currants, blueberries, and other soft fruits sit alongside fruit trees, including patio choices, dwarf varieties, and bare-root or potted trees.

Seed potatoes, garlic, onions, and shallots are organized by type and planting season. Flower seeds include sunflowers, cosmos, poppies, zinnias, and sweet peas, alongside British wildflower mixes and bee and butterfly selections. Monthly sowing calendars connect a purchase with its growing season.

Garden plants include perennials, shrubs, climbers, and hedging, along with seasonal bedding and pre-planted hanging baskets. Bulbs and tubers offer spring, summer, and fall flowers. Houseplants include cacti, succulents, ferns, orchids, and foliage plants, with filters for light, shade, and different rooms.

Growing supplies bring together propagators, pots, raised beds, compost, plant protection, supports, and tools. Greenhouses and sheds add larger equipment. Lawn-care items, bird accessories, and outdoor furniture are also available. Customers can shop online or through catalog references, with a quick-order option using product codes.

The printed catalog, growing guides, and inspiration articles complement product selection. Gardening Club is a shopping membership with benefits under its terms, and gift cards let recipients choose products later. Suttons brings together seeds, plants, and equipment for several experience levels, organized to help plan a vegetable plot or garden by space, season, and how cultivation begins.
