About Oxford Cat Clinic
Oxford Cat Clinic: cat-only veterinary care in Botley, Oxford
Oxford Cat Clinic is an independent veterinary clinic exclusively dedicated to cats, located in Botley, Oxford. Its clinical team treats only felines, which according to the clinic itself spares cats the smells and noises of mixed-species practices. The clinic presents itself as a feline referral centre in the area, with a specialisation approach that its managers describe as distinctive.
Unhurried veterinary consultations adapted to the cat
The clinic structures its standard consultations in 20 minutes, a time that allows the vet and the owner to talk and understand the animal's condition, and the cat to relax. The team works with personalised treatment plans, without uniform protocols, and stresses that there are no dogs in the waiting room or on the premises.
Nurse-led specialised clinics
Oxford Cat Clinic offers a series of preventive and follow-up clinics led by its veterinary nursing team. These include:
- Six-month health check for kittens, junior and adult cats, aimed at detecting subtle changes and facilitating early diagnoses.
- Silver Tails: wellness clinic for cats over 11 years old, with geriatric assessment.
- Feline slimming club: advice on food, portions and type of diet.
- Feline diabetes clinic: support for owners of cats diagnosed with diabetes.
- Feline kidney club: support for cases of kidney disease.
- Urinary wellness clinic: nurse-led follow-up for cats with previously diagnosed urinary problems.
Cat life stages
The clinic organises its services and advice around the six life stages defined by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM): kittens (0-6 months), junior cats (7 months to 2 years), adults (3-6 years), mature (7-10 years), senior (11-14 years) and super senior (15+ years). For each stage it offers guidance on diet, microchipping, vaccination, neutering, dental care, parasite control and monitoring of common diseases.
Equipment and diagnosis
The clinic has ultrasound, endoscopy, digital dental X-ray, digital X-ray for cats and its own laboratory. These resources allow diagnostic tests to be carried out on site.
Veterinary team
The team is led by Melanie Weatherall, director and owner. Dr Martha Cannon is a specialist in feline medicine. The clinical team is completed by vets Ioanna Stylianidou, Duncan Watts and Susie Winterbourne, together with registered veterinary nurses Kathryn Rak, Sam Evans and Matilda Hearn, care assistant Becky Madden, receptionist Bethany Louch and Joe Weatherall as trainee manager.
New clinic for dogs and other pets in Marston
The group has opened Oxford Vet Clinic in Marston, a centre that treats dogs and other small animals. The Botley clinic maintains its cat-only activity unchanged. This opening allows it to serve clients who live with both cats and dogs.
24/7 veterinary advice and other services
Registered clients have access to VidiVet, an online veterinary consultation service available 24 hours a day with UK-registered vets, at no extra cost. The clinic also offers a repeat prescription and food ordering service, registration of new patients, a recommend a friend programme, and a care plan called Lifetime Care Club. It also publishes advice on feline health, such as dental disease, Christmas safety, heatstroke, early neutering and travelling with pets after Brexit.
