Bag2Charity

Free home collection in Yorkshire and other parts of the UK for reusable clothing and household goods, with proceeds supporting charities.

About Bag2Charity

A bag left outside a home can take a different route from the trash: Bag2Charity organizes free collections to find a second use for clothing and other reusable goods while raising funds for charities. The company is based in Northallerton and coordinates service across Yorkshire, northeast England, Greater Manchester, and other parts of the country.

Customers book online by entering a postcode to check coverage and choose a collection date. The company says it serves more than 22 postal areas. Items are packed in bags or boxes and left outside on the scheduled day; residents do not need to stay home while the driver makes the pickup.

Accepted donations include adult, children’s, and baby clothing; wearable shoes; handbags; hats; belts; costume jewelry; curtains; towels; and light bed linens. Bag2Charity also takes books, small toys, household utensils, hand tools, compact musical instruments, and decorative items. The company asks customers to tie pairs of shoes together and wrap fragile pieces before pickup.

Condition matters as much as category. Bag2Charity asks for items that are clean, dry, and in good enough shape for someone else to use. It does not collect furniture or items larger than a standard microwave, duvets, pillows, dirty textiles, large appliances, or hazardous materials. Heavily worn or damaged clothing falls outside the reuse program described by the company.

A printed label helps the team identify each donation, though the company says customers without a printer can write “Bag2Charity” on a sheet of paper and attach it to the bag or box. The goods are then taken to a warehouse for sorting. The company explains that some items are reused for their original purpose, while others are recycled or repurposed as materials such as fibers or industrial wiping cloths.

Bag2Charity says a typical sorting split is about 75 percent for reuse in its original form and 25 percent for recycling or repurposing. The actual share depends on the condition and type of each collection. Wearable items move into the secondhand market; materials that can no longer be worn may still serve as raw material for another use.

Donors choose which charity to support when booking. Bag2Charity lists partners including Human Appeal, Children’s Air Ambulance, and Kidney Research Yorkshire, along with local organizations. The model pairs a convenient home pickup with careful sorting: checking what is accepted and preparing only suitable items helps donations reach the selected cause and keeps useful material in circulation.
