Lighthouse Training & Development Ltd is a British company specialising in leadership development and management training. Its work combines open programmes and apprenticeship programmes funded through the apprenticeship levy. History and evolution

The company opened its doors in 2012 with two founding directors, including its current managing director, Gill. That same year it became a centre of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), offering qualifications in leadership and management. In 2014 it brought in several key team members who are still with the organisation, such as director Charlie, sales and marketing manager Roy, office manager Josh and training administrator Rob.

In 2017 it began delivering apprenticeships in leadership and management and became an approved centre of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). A year later it expanded its offer with apprenticeships in project management and customer service, and became an approved centre of the Association for Project Management (APM). In 2019 it received its first Ofsted monitoring visit and moved its office to Riduna Park, in Woodbridge, as well as developing a strategic alliance with the CMI.

During 2020, the company adapted its activity to online delivery to maintain the continuity of its programmes. In 2021 it registered its 1000th apprentice, received a Platinum award from Best Employers Eastern Region and moved to its current office, also in Riduna Park. In 2022 it obtained the official 'Good' apprenticeship provider rating after its first full Ofsted inspection, launched the improvement practitioner apprenticeship and celebrated its tenth anniversary. In 2023 it partnered with the NHS Leadership Academy and became an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) of the CITB, aimed at the construction sector.

Programmes and training specialities

Lighthouse's offer is structured around tailored training and apprenticeship programmes. Among the apprenticeships it delivers are those in leadership and management, project management, customer service and improvement practitioner. The company also offers open programmes and training adapted to the culture and objectives of each organisation.

Its methodology combines real leadership experience with a people-centred approach, in order to generate meaningful change in teams. According to the information published, the results of its apprenticeships in the academic year shown include distinction rates at levels such as Business Administration Level 3, Team Leader Level 3 and Operations Manager Level 5.

The company works with the NHS Leadership Academy and is approved by the CITB as a training organisation for the construction sector.

In July 2022, Ofsted highlighted that apprentices receive high-quality training and support, that expert tutors make learning relevant to their jobs and that they acquire the skills and behaviours needed to achieve high grades.

Commitment to the local community

The company maintains local sports sponsorships. It sponsors the Kesgrave Kestrels U18 football team and the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Union Football Club U18 Colts rugby team, covering the referees' fees for the 2024 season.
