Vinyl Passion & The Missing Link

Vinyl Passion & The Missing Link, hi-fi in the heart of Sherwood Forest

Vinyl Passion & The Missing Link is a British family business dedicated to hi-fi and audio consultancy, with a demonstration room in Meden Vale, Nottinghamshire. The company presents itself as a specialist in high-end audio equipment and operates from a conditioned listening room where it attends by appointment. Mark and Jan, who lead the project, have more than thirty years of experience in the professional music industry, sound engineering, physics, electronics and materials science.

Consultancy and equipment selection

The business offers advice for the purchase of audio equipment, from a single component to a complete system, with the stated aim of tailoring the proposal to the customer's budget. The company says it understands the synergy between components and room acoustics, and offers free local installation. It also provides repair, upgrade and servicing of equipment, and the possibility of arranging a home loan of many items for testing.

Vinyl Passion turntables and Linn LP-12 specialisation

Vinyl Passion designs and manufactures turntables, accessories and upgrades, with particular dedication to Linn LP-12 and Thorens models. The company produces bases and plinths from exotic hardwoods through a master craftsman, and sells its own range of VP-12 turntables, based on the Linn LP-12 main bearing. Components are manufactured with aerospace-grade materials and offered in custom finishes. The firm also provides complete upgrade and restoration services for LP-12, Thorens and other turntables.

Handmade The Missing Link cables

The Missing Link is the house's range of audio cables, handmade. The company states that it controls the entire production process, from the creation of the conductor to the finished product, and that it is the only British hi-fi cable company that fully undertakes that process. Silver is selected according to its specific chemical fingerprint for audio applications, and the firm has developed a silver-plating process called Ultrapure Silver, the result of more than ten years of research in metallurgy and pure silver chemistry. The cable catalogue includes interconnects, power, digital, speaker and tone arm cables, as well as retermination services.

Equipment and brand catalogue

The shop sells amplifiers, speakers, phono stages, tone arms, cartridges and styli, furniture and supports, accessories and home audio equipment. Among the brands it distributes are Vinyl Passion, Vincent, Gold Note, The Missing Link, Linn, Atacama, Audio Technica, Audio Mods and Elac. The company also offers carefully selected used audio equipment and accepts used equipment as part payment, as well as arranging part exchanges.

Recognition and demonstration activity

The firm says its designs have received various awards over the years. Hi-fi reviewer Chris Ward visited its demonstration room at the Styl'us Hi-Fi show in London and highlighted the room's sound as the best of the event. Attendance is exclusively by appointment in the Meden Vale listening room.
