About Moto-Technique

Moto-Technique: motorcycle training in the UK

Moto-Technique is a motorcycle school dedicated to rider training. Its offering ranges from the compulsory Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course to preparation for category A1, A2 and A licences, including the big bike licence for riders aged 24 and over. The company also provides scooter and moped training, and offers sessions tailored to specific needs such as returning to riding, motorway lessons or refresher sessions.

Training programmes and licences

The course catalogue includes:

  • Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), the compulsory course to start riding your own motorcycle or moped.
  • Scooter and moped training.
  • Preparation for the category A1 licence (125 cc).
  • Preparation for the category A2 licence (restricted).
  • Preparation for the category A licence, for big bikes (24 years or over).
  • Basic motorcycle maintenance, currently suspended due to training commitments.

In addition to the regulated programmes, the school provides tailored training based on the student's previous experience, with return-to-riding sessions, motorway lessons and refreshers. For these cases there is no fixed format, as each client's skills and background vary.

Teaching approach

The company maintains that the standards required by the DVSA represent a minimum and that, at times, they can translate into an insufficient level of riding ability. Therefore, its stated aim is to provide greater knowledge and mastery of the motorcycle in order to enjoy and continue improving your solo riding. Lesson scheduling remains flexible, with time between sessions so that information and skills can sink in, and the amount of training is not predetermined until the student has been assessed.

Requirements and bookings

To take the CBT course you must hold a full or provisional UK driving licence, have a reasonable knowledge of English and the Highway Code, and be able to ride an adult-sized bicycle. The school warns that, if language is an issue, you should check before booking, as the fee will not be refunded if the student cannot take the course on the scheduled day. For those with no road experience, it is recommended to complete the Ridefree e-learning modules for motorcycles, available on the government website safedrivingforlife.info.

CBT booking can be made through the secure online calendar or by phone. For additional lessons, full licence packs or a free assessment, you need to call. The company also offers personalised vouchers to gift a CBT course, lessons or a specific amount; they can be purchased by phone, with first-class postage, or in person at its premises.

Prices and packs

The catalogue shows a price of £189 for the CBT course and £169 for the CBT renewal course. The full licence pack starts from £774 and includes four sessions, test fees, bike use, insurance and equipment (helmet, gloves, waterproofs, etc.), with conditions applying. The company states that a UK licence is required to take the training; those with a foreign licence can check the exchange process or register a European licence with the DVLA to obtain a UK licence number that allows them to take the CBT or training, using form D9 available on gov.uk, making sure it includes category A for motorcycles.

Access and customer service

The office handles enquiries from 9:30 to 16:30, remains closed on Sundays and does not open on Mondays. The phone line and email are available for any enquiry. The company advises that the end of Collyhurst Road is closed, so there is no access to its end of Dantzic Street or via Gould Street from Rochdale Road; the alternative route is Bromley Street to reach the lower part of Gould Street. Routes via Red Bank and Corporation Street to Dantzic Street, and via Bromley St/Williamson St to Gould Street and then Dantzic Street, are unaffected.
