About Alloy Bodies Ltd
Alloy Bodies builds commercial vehicle bodies and conversions from its Manchester base. The Sullivan family founded the company in 1969, when aluminum construction was emerging as a lightweight alternative to traditional timber-framed bodies. The business began in two workshop bays and, as it expanded during the 1970s and 1980s, the site grew to more than 46 bays.
The company’s history is tied to Miles Platting, where its Clifton Street base is located. Alloy Bodies notes that the site had housed A.V. Roe from 1913, a maker of early biplanes that later became AVRO. The original factory is gone, though its historic entrance remains; the company presents the location today as a link between engineering heritage and manufacturing.
For light commercial vehicles, the range includes Luton bodies in Evoluton and Evoluton Plus versions, the low-floor HILO, and the AeroCurtain. The company describes these solutions for different delivery and cargo needs; the body type can be specified to suit the chassis and operating requirements. Its configurator and sales team help work through dimensions, specifications, and conversion options.
The heavy commercial range includes box and curtain-sided truck bodies. Curtain-sided models allow access to palletized and bulky loads, while the company highlights weight reduction and load-restraint systems that meet DVSA requirements. The selection also includes tail lifts, paint, and livery, with available options depending on the project and base vehicle.
Alloy Bodies also presents sector-specific solutions, including bodies for furniture and removals work and traffic-management vehicles. The catalog combines volume production for fleets with work tailored to individual operators. The company says its team supports projects from design and specification through manufacturing and delivery, with quality controls intended to maintain consistency across vehicles.
After-sales support includes replacement parts, repairs, and maintenance for conversions and serviceable components. The company also handles warranty inquiries and offers manufacturer-approved repairs. To help minimize waiting, it asks customers to give at least 24 hours’ notice before delivering or collecting a vehicle; each department has its own operating window, separate from new-sales hours.
Alloy Bodies says it supplies fleets, manufacturers, rental companies, and owner-operators. It became part of the Anderson Group in 2017, adding commercial vehicle body building to a portfolio that includes vehicle businesses and commercial property. Its combination of scalable production and individual projects makes the company a supplier for turning a chassis into a work vehicle configured for a specific job.
