The founder, a qualified chemist and Associate of the Royal College of Science, began producing natural soaps after becoming concerned about the effects of detergents such as SLS, preservatives such as parabens and other additives found in commercial cosmetic products. That starting point, according to the company itself, continues to define the way it works: formulas free from sulphates, free from parabens and free from palm oil.

The business has grown to include a team that includes her husband Philip, her children and other people from their circle of family and friends, who regularly join in the workshop.
