About Burton Hill Caravan & Camping Park
Family camping beside the River Avon, in Malmesbury
Burton Hill Caravan & Camping Park is a family-run camping and caravan park located on Arches Lane, on the edge of the town of Malmesbury, in Wiltshire. The site occupies a riverside location beside the River Avon, about a ten-minute walk from the centre of Malmesbury, a market town. The business presents itself as a quiet and friendly establishment, recommended by Camping & Caravanning UK, and states that it has been family run since 1948.
Pitches and camping options
The campsite organises camping in two main areas. The Main Field is a large, flat grass area that serves as the primary pitching space on the campsite and accommodates tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans; it has numerous electric hook-up points distributed throughout the area and a line of trees along one side that provides some natural shelter. The Meadow, situated on a gentle slope, is aimed at those seeking a quieter setting and offers views over Malmesbury; due to its incline and uneven ground in places, it is recommended for tents, green campers (non-motorised), campervans and motorhomes, and not for caravans. This area has five electric hook-up points.
The pitch offering is structured around three rates: Standard Pitch, for caravan, motorhome or tent; Electric Pitch, for the same vehicles with an electric hook-up; and Green Camper, for those arriving on foot or by bicycle without a motor vehicle. The site's listing indicated prices per night of £20 for one person and £28 for two on the standard pitch, £24 and £32 respectively on the pitch with electricity, and £15 and £20 for the Green Camper option.
Site facilities and services
The park has 32 electric hook-up points, a shower and toilet block, a dishwashing area and laundry with ironing facilities, recycling facilities and a grey water disposal point. The sanitary facilities include individual private washrooms and separate men's and women's sections. The campsite presents itself as a family space and welcomes dogs. It also has disabled access and equipment, with grab rails, level-access showers, lowered counters and ramps.
Season and stay conditions
The opening season indicated on the site runs from 1 April to 31 October 2025. A minimum stay of three nights applies on bank holiday weekends. The business advises that on busy weekends availability is limited and it may not be possible to change pitches once you have arrived, and offers pre-booking assistance to help choose the most suitable area according to the type of setup.
Surroundings: Malmesbury and the Cotswolds
The campsite presents itself as a base for exploring the Wiltshire countryside and the Cotswolds. Nearby suggestions it mentions include the Westonbirt arboretum, with species from around the world; the historic centre of Malmesbury, with its architecture and independent boutique shops for clothing, home accessories and gifts; local walking routes; and the pubs and restaurants in Malmesbury town centre. Direct access to walks along the River Avon is also among the area's attractions.
Access
The site details two arrival routes. From the north, via the A429 southbound from Cirencester towards Malmesbury and the M4, it advises continuing on the bypass without entering the town centre, going straight on at the first two junctions and turning right into signposted Arches Lane, before leaving Malmesbury and before the 30/40 mph sign. From the south, via M4 junction 17 northbound towards Cirencester on the A429 for five miles, you pass an RAF camp and the village of Corston; as you approach Malmesbury at the 30 mph sign, the entrance is signposted to the left, 20 metres after the 40/30 mph sign and before the roundabout.
