Stepping Stone Maths is a private maths tutoring service founded by Nicola Colman, based in Loughborough and providing face-to-face and online tuition globally. The company supports students from Reception to Year 13, covering primary stages, SATS preparation, GCSE and A Level.

Founder and teaching team

Nicola Colman is the founder and lead tutor. She holds a degree in Maths and Education from Loughborough University, with Qualified Teaching Status. Her final-year dissertation was a 12,000-word research project on teaching maths to visually impaired people. During her four-year degree, she gained experience teaching maths to primary and secondary students up to A Level.

After travelling the world, she worked in banking, finance and treasury, and qualified as an accountant. She later returned to teaching and worked as an accountancy lecturer for an international training provider for thirteen years, combining face-to-face and online teaching for all accountancy boards. She currently writes accountancy material for a training provider based in Cambridge.

Approach to lessons

Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs. Nicola works closely with the child and parents to identify the requirements of each session. According to her presentation, she has perfected a method that produces results: building confidence, supporting maths skills and knowledge, SATS preparation and transition to secondary school.

The first contact is made through a discovery call in which they discuss the child's needs, available spaces and how their learning can be supported. Nicola personally handles all enquiries.
