National CPC: online Driver CPC training for professional drivers

National CPC is an online training centre specialising in Driver CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) for heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and passenger transport (PSV/PCV) drivers. The company presents itself as an online training centre and offers DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) approved courses that allow drivers to complete the 35 hours of mandatory periodic training from home.

Training options: National and International Driver CPC

The centre provides training for the two Driver CPC certifications that the DVSA introduced on 3 December 2024:

• National Driver CPC: for drivers who work only within the UK.

Courses and structure of periodic training

The training offer includes 7-hour DVSA-approved courses, which count towards the 35 hours of periodic training that drivers must complete every five years, as well as 3.5-hour modules that can be combined to reach the required 7 hours. National CPC distinguishes between Periodic Training and Initial Training. The former is aimed at drivers with acquired rights or who passed their test before 10 September 2008 for PSV and before 10 September 2009 for HGV. The company states that it currently does not provide initial training.

Requirements and certification

According to the centre's information, all professional drivers must complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training every five years. The training does not require passing any additional exams. National CPC offers to check certification status free of charge by sending a photograph of the driving licence or DQC by email.

Teaching team

Vince, co-founder, director and lead trainer, leads the training activity. His career began in the British Army and he has held various roles in the transport sector, including training fuel tanker drivers for Wincanton. During lockdown he moved into online training, which led him to found the centre.

Online training and flexibility

Courses are delivered online, with sessions via Zoom, allowing students to organise their training at times compatible with work. The company offers booking flexibility and 3.5-hour modules that make it easier to combine sessions.
