Wild Frontiers

Agency founded by travel writer Jonny Bealby, with small-group and customized trips combining routes, culture, and local partners.

About Wild Frontiers

Wild Frontiers has an origin rooted in travel writing. In 1996, Jonny Bealby traveled through India and areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan following the literary trail of Kipling’s The Man Who Would Be King. His time with the Kalash and interest in the region led to The Hindu Kush Adventure: he escorted the first group in 1998, and the company was born.

The agency organizes small-group tours and customized vacations. Itineraries draw on the team’s local knowledge and destination partners, with attention to routes, transportation, and overnight accommodations. Its proposed experience also centers on people encountered during the trip, alongside landmarks and landscapes.

Escorted itineraries have a published maximum of twelve participants and an average of nine. That scale supports interaction within the group and visits to communities and sensitive environments. Private trips allow a different combination of dates, accommodations, and activities, with a consultant supporting itinerary development.

Mongolia, India, and Costa Rica illustrate the breadth of landscapes in the catalog: steppes, cities, and tropical forests. Vietnam and the Hunza Valley feature in destination content. An interest in less conventional routes connects with the company’s history, although each option has its own itinerary and conditions.

Group pricing includes transportation, admission fees, and permits, with accommodations and a predominantly full-board approach. Predominantly matters: the selection of meals and services belongs to the individual program. The company describes a policy of avoiding extra local payments and repeated purchases of optional activities within those itineraries.

Wild Frontiers Foundation, established in 2009, channels funding to projects in countries where the agency operates. Its responsible-travel policy addresses the economic, cultural, and environmental effects of visits. This organizational dimension accompanies the everyday work of designing routes with communities and local partners.

The team brings together tour leaders and consultants working from London. Consultations develop customized trips, including accommodation choices and practical details such as tipping. Videos, webinars, a blog, and The World by Wild Frontiers podcast extend destination context; an itinerary developed around a route and its encounters remains central to the offering.
