UNILUG: student storage in London

UNILUG is a storage service aimed at university students in London. The company presents itself as a student-run option for those who need to vacate their accommodation at the end of term, don't have a vehicle or have family abroad. Its proposition combines free collection from halls, storage in monitored facilities and delivery back to your door within its London service area.

How the service works

The process is organised in four steps: online booking, collection from halls, secure storage and delivery back when term starts. The company states that booking can be completed in about three minutes and that collection is carried out from student halls across London, including those managed by iQ, Scape, Urbanest, Nido, Chapter and Vita. Standard delivery is made within the London service area and costs £7.99 per box or suitcase.

Plans and pricing

The rate varies depending on the length of storage. The Term Break plan, for one month, costs £12.10 per box per month. The Summer plan, for three months, is offered at £7.25 per box per month, a saving of 40% compared to the monthly rate. The Year Away plan, for five to twelve months, drops to £5.95 per box per month, a saving of 50%. The company also applies progressive discounts by duration: 20% for two months, 45% for four months and up to 50% for five to twelve months. All plans include insurance up to £110 per box and WhatsApp support.

Packing materials and additional services

UNILUG sells double-walled cardboard boxes in two sizes: medium, 45 × 40 × 40 cm, at £3.95 per box, and large, 70 × 45 × 45 cm, at £5.95 per box. Both accept a maximum weight of 25 kg. Packing tape is sold at £2.75 per roll. Boxes are delivered to your door before collection and there is no additional delivery charge. For bulky items, the company offers a custom quote upon telephone consultation.

Suitcase storage is managed as an add-on: it has a handling fee of £5.95 and a monthly cost of £6.95. Each suitcase is barcoded, photographed at collection and wrapped with protective material at the storage centre. The maximum weight allowed is 23 kg and it must be lockable. Suitcases do not require a box.

The room packing service has a fixed price of £169. It includes up to two hours of work at your home and up to ten UNILUG boxes, with tape and bubble wrap. The company specifies that the limit of two hours or ten boxes applies whichever is reached first, and that boxes, storage and delivery are billed separately. Additional time or more than ten boxes requires a custom quote agreed in advance. This service requires advance booking and is subject to team availability.

Scope and conditions

UNILUG only collects in London and does not accept bookings with addresses outside that area. The company serves students from institutions such as UCL, LSE, King's College London, UAL, City and Queen Mary, and organises collection by zones including Bloomsbury, King's Cross, Holborn, South Bank, Stratford, Canary Wharf, Mile End, Aldgate and East London. Plans range from one month to twelve months, and dates can be changed up to 48 hours in advance without penalty. Cancellation is also free within the 48 hours prior. The company states it does not apply administrative charges or fuel surcharges.
