About Specters Solicitors

Specters Solicitors: legal advice on professional negligence and personal injury

Specters Solicitors is a law firm based in the United Kingdom that focuses on professional negligence, personal injury, group action and family law. The firm presents itself as a practice that prioritises personalised client service and transparency in information about costs.

Practice areas

The firm structures its offering around several areas: professional negligence, personal injury, group action, dispute resolution, medical and healthcare law, and family law. Within professional negligence, the firm handles claims against surveyors, lawyers, accountants, brokers, independent financial advisers and victims of conveyancing fraud. In the field of personal injury, the lawyers take on cases of workplace accidents and serious injuries.

Team and experience

The team combines lawyers with specialist training and litigation experience. Ken Specter, managing director, studied Law at the University of London and The College of Law in Chester; he founded Specter & Partners in 1985 and during his first fifteen years practised in litigation before courts and tribunals, representing private, commercial and insurance clients. He also founded Lawshield, a legal expenses insurance business, alongside Connexus Insurance Solutions in 1996.

Andrew Specter, director, holds a first-class honours degree in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Nottingham, completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School with distinction, and took a Master of Laws at the London School of Economics, also with distinction. He has worked at Specters since 2017 and qualified as a solicitor in 2019; he specialises in general litigation.

Paul Daniel, director, studied Law at the University of Hertfordshire and completed the Legal Practice Course at The College of Law in York. He qualified as a solicitor in July 2012, joined Specters in February 2016 and works from the London office. His speciality is professional negligence in claims against surveyors, lawyers, accountants, brokers and independent financial advisers, as well as in cases of conveyancing fraud; he also represents clients with serious injuries.

Tracey Atallah, solicitor, qualified in the United Kingdom in 2017. She holds an LLB from the University of London, completed the LPC at BPP and is finishing a master's in Business. She is bilingual in English and Arabic and has experience in various sectors of the legal field, with frequent instructions in cases involving complex financial matters and representing high-net-worth clients both in the United Kingdom and in other jurisdictions.

Laura Sparrow, head of clinical negligence, qualified as a Fellow Chartered Legal Executive in October 2004 and previously practised in personal injury and civil litigation. She joined Specters in January 2019, is a member of APIL and regularly volunteers on the AVMA helpline. She has experience in all types of claims, including high-value and complex ones, and takes a personal approach to each case, addressing both compensation and support during the process.

Group action and representative cases

The firm has developed a group action practice. At the time of scanning, it was representing a group of twelve claimants in a professional negligence case related to the Spaldington Eco Resort complex. It has also participated in claims arising from a failed property investment scheme, including a group action against a conveyancing law firm that was resolved with a settlement, and has recovered millions for investors in relation to a failed property investment plan.

Fees and claims process

The firm states that it maintains a policy of transparency about costs and explains the stages of the claims process. On its website it details that some cases have been handled under conditional fee agreements, known as 'no win, no fee', so that the client did not have to fund the case in advance.

Offices

Specters Solicitors has an office in London, from which part of the team works, and serves clients in the United Kingdom and in other jurisdictions.
