About Westminster Tutors
Westminster Tutors, an independent sixth form college in central London
Westminster Tutors is an independent sixth form college located on Old Brompton Road, in the South Kensington area of central London. Founded in 1934, it presents itself as one of the oldest independent sixth form colleges in the city and has over 90 years of experience in preparing students for A levels. The college describes itself as non-selective and caters exclusively to sixth form students.
Its model is based on personalised teaching: lessons are taught one-to-one or in very small groups of two or three students, with flexible timetables and courses tailored to each student's needs. In addition, each student receives a weekly one-to-one mentoring session that covers academic aspects such as study skills, as well as pastoral support and practical help with university applications through UCAS.
Academic offering: A levels, retakes and university preparation
The college offers more than 25 A level subjects with all UK exam boards. A typical sixth form student takes three subjects over two years, although it also admits students taking a fourth subject or an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). The combination of subjects is flexible and adapted to each case.
Westminster Tutors also offers individually designed A level retake courses, lasting one year or six months. These courses allow students to continue with the same exam board and the same units, so they can focus on the areas where they need the most help. The college also offers Oxbridge preparation, private tuition and Easter revision courses for students from other schools who wish to improve their grades and university applications.
Academic results and university destinations
According to data published by the college itself, in 2025 36% of all A level grades were A*-A and 61% were A*-B. For 2026, the college states that more than 85% of its students progressed to Russell Group universities, a figure that exceeds 90% for A level retake students. It also notes that in 2026 35% of grades were A*-A and 75% A*-B. Westminster Tutors highlights that these results are achieved as a non-selective college and emphasises the progress of its students from their starting point.
Inspection, reputation and reviews
In the 2024 ISI inspection, the college was rated "Exceeding Expectations" and "Excellent" in all categories. It also has positive reviews in the Good Schools Guide. The college states that 100% of parents would recommend it and that many of its enrolments come from word of mouth.
Student support and environment
Student support includes personalised and impartial guidance on careers and university applications, offered on a one-to-one basis throughout the sixth form. The college presents itself as a place for students who wish to study A levels with highly qualified teachers and exceptional personal support, and describes a welcoming and informal atmosphere with student activities.
The college's location, on Old Brompton Road, is a few minutes' walk from South Kensington underground station (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines), close to the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Royal College of Music, the Institut Français and the Royal Geographical Society, among other institutions.
Admissions and contact
The college states that the admissions process for September 2026 is open, with limited places. The Principal, Sean Doherty, meets with all prospective students and parents to explain what the college offers. The first visit to the college provides first-hand insight into the personal attention it offers.
