About DocTap

DocTap: private general practice with London clinics and video consultations

DocTap is a network of private general practice clinics based in London. Its offering combines eight in-person centres across the city with video or telephone consultations available throughout the UK. The company states that it is regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission) and claims to have treated more than 500,000 patients, with an average rating of 4.9 stars from 2,202 reviews.

The care model does not require registration or membership: you do not need to be registered with an NHS GP to book an appointment. Appointments can be booked online with real-time availability, and the company says it offers same-day slots, as well as evening and weekend appointments.

General practice and primary care services

The core of the business is private GP consultations, with 15- or 25-minute appointments for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of common health problems, new symptoms or persistent conditions. These consultations include, at no extra cost, the issuing of prescriptions, specialist referrals, sick notes and fit notes, and standard medical letters. Tests, scans and medicines are charged separately.

The company also offers video GP consultations from £55, with the option to switch to an in-person appointment if the case requires it. This format is available seven days a week.

Laboratory tests and rapid diagnosis

Five of DocTap's eight clinics have their own laboratory. These process blood tests and sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests with rapid results: certain blood tests are ready in around 15 minutes and are reviewed by the doctor during the same visit, while some STI results are available within four hours. The company says this means that, in many cases, diagnosis and treatment can be completed in a single appointment.

The test catalogue includes more than 1,000 tests, among them full blood count, liver function, kidney function, thyroid, cholesterol and HbA1c. Ultrasounds, MRIs and X-rays are also offered, with interpretation by a GP.

Sexual health, screening and mental health

DocTap provides sexual health services with confidential testing and treatment for symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. STI tests start from £63, with same-day availability and results within four hours, and can be combined with an optional GP consultation.

Health screens are designed for the early detection of health problems and start from £68. They include a full set of blood tests with same-day results and report, and can be done with or without a GP consultation.

In the area of mental health, the clinic offers psychological therapy and counselling, antidepressant prescribing by GPs, in-person and video consultations, and the issuing of sick notes for mental health conditions.

Women's health, men's health and weight loss

The company has specific women's health services, including advice on contraception and family planning, cervical smears and fertility tests, menopause care and hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and women's health screens.

Men's health services include testosterone and hormone checks, advice and treatment for erectile dysfunction, male fertility tests and men's health screens.

The weight loss programme is led by GPs and includes an in-person consultation, optional same-day blood tests, prescribing of weight loss medication and ongoing follow-up by the doctor.

Procedures and other services

Available procedures include wound care, ear wax removal and joint injections. The company also offers corporate services and has a patient portal for viewing records, requesting support or booking follow-ups.

DocTap operates eight clinics in London, five of them with their own laboratory. The locations are close to major Tube and rail stations: Canary Wharf, Hammersmith, Kings Cross & Euston, Liverpool Street & Bank, London Bridge, Bond Street, Clapham and Stratford. The company details walking distances from stations such as South Quay, Heron Quays, Hammersmith, Euston, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Bank, London Bridge, Bond Street, Clapham Common and Stratford, as well as from the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford. It also offers GP consultations by video or telephone throughout the UK, with no mobile app required.

Fees and how appointments work

In-person 15-minute consultations cost £75 (£85 on Saturdays and Sundays), while 25-minute consultations, recommended for complex or multiple issues, cost £115 (from £135 at weekends). Video consultations start from £55 (from £65 at weekends). The company says first mental health appointments are recommended to be 25 minutes, with follow-ups that can be 15 minutes.

The booking process is done online: you select the appointment type, choose a doctor and time, pay securely, and the details arrive in the patient portal and by email. No prior medical referral is required. The company offers a £5 discount for new patients who subscribe to its newsletter, not available to those who have previously paid or received employer-funded care.
