About The Shard
The Shard: a multi-use skyscraper in the heart of London
The Shard is a building conceived as a "vertical city" combining offices, restaurants, a five-star hotel, private residences and a viewing gallery. It presents itself as an icon of modern London and as a new approach to expanding the urban landscape, taking workspaces, housing and public areas skyward. The building stands in Shard Quarter, an area that also houses the headquarters of News UK (The News Building) and the Shard Place residential development.
Offices in a unique setting
Between levels 2 and 28, The Shard offers office spaces designed to inspire those who work in them. The proposal combines panoramic views over the city with spaciousness, light and natural ventilation thanks to the winter gardens on each floor. The company responsible for the building notes that inspiring work environments help improve occupants' creativity, efficiency and productivity, and describes the building as a unique place to work in London Bridge.
Restaurants and bars with views
Levels 31, 32 and 33 bring together seven restaurants and bars offering an eclectic mix of cuisines from around the world. The dining offer includes options such as the Asian-inspired afternoon tea at Shangri-La The Shard, the Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at Aqua Shard, Oblix's afternoon tea with a modern take on the British classic and options for children under 12, and Hutong's Shanghai Socials evenings on level 33, with dim sum, cocktails and late-night atmosphere on Thursdays and Fridays from 7pm. Sky Lounge offers a Sunday brunch in partnership with Veuve Clicquot. TĪNG welcomes group dining for six or more and private hire of the space for special occasions.
Accommodation and residences
Shangri-La The Shard, London occupies levels 34 to 52 and presents itself as five-star accommodation with rooms and suites, the highest hotel pool in Western Europe and an afternoon tea with an Asian twist. Between levels 53 and 65 are private residences, described as the highest homes in the United Kingdom. Shard Place, the residential development in the area, combines the convenience and luxury of a boutique hotel with the independence of a home and offers apartments available immediately.
The viewing gallery and events
The View from The Shard, the building's viewing gallery, offers a 360-degree panorama that extends 40 miles in all directions. The building also has spaces for exclusive events, from private celebrations to corporate gatherings, with the London skyline as a backdrop, spectacular views, dining and bespoke experiences.
Building facts
The Shard is 309.6 metres (1,016 feet) high and presents itself as the tallest building in Western Europe. It has 95 storeys, with level 72 being the highest habitable floor. The building has 36 lifts, some of them double-decker. Its location, at one of London's main transport hubs, was conceived to intensify urban life without increasing traffic, making use of public transport. The project was driven by Irvine Sellar, developer and co-owner, with architect Renzo Piano, who conceived the tower as a "vertical city" for thousands of people and millions of visitors.
