About Puddleplants

Puddleplants, a nursery specialising in pond and bog garden plants

Puddleplants is a family-run nursery dedicated to aquatic plants, based in west Wales near Llandeilo. The company presents itself as one of the UK's leading pond plant specialists and operates exclusively online: its nursery is located at the end of a private track over which there are no access rights, so it does not receive in-person visits and focuses all its activity on online sales.

Its catalogue combines British native plants with non-native and ornamental varieties, and is organised into categories such as marginal plants, bog garden plants, oxygenating and floating plants, water lilies and deep water plants, and water irises.

Ready-made collections and planting advice

For those new to pond planting or who find the available variety overwhelming, the nursery offers ready-made collections, both of native and ornamental species, suited to ponds and lakes of different sizes. These collections bring together the plants needed to create a balanced ecosystem. There is also a line of smaller wildlife-friendly collections, designed to attract different types of wildlife and to complement existing plantings.

The company provides personalised planting advice by phone or email, according to each customer's needs.

Pond accessories and treatments

Alongside plants, Puddleplants sells accessories and maintenance products: aquatic baskets in the most common sizes, aquatic substrate, planting gravel, pond treatments, plant fertilisers, planting bags and blankets, and floating islands.

Supply formats and cultivation

Plants are shipped in different sizes, in solid pots or in aquatic planting baskets, except for some oxygenating plants and one or two types of marginal plants that are supplied bare-root. Most are available in 9 cm containers (0.5 litres), and many also in larger 1, 2 and 3 litre formats. Water lilies start from the 1 litre format, with specimens also in 2 litre baskets and selected premium water lilies in 3 or 4 litre baskets.

The 9 cm containers are usually solid pots, so marginal and deep water plants in that size must be transplanted into larger aquatic baskets before being placed in the pond, unless they are planted directly into the bottom soil. Marginal and deep water plants of 1 litre or more are supplied in aquatic planting baskets covered with gravel, ready to place in the pond.

All plants are fully hardy and are grown outdoors or in an open-sided greenhouse, so they can be planted all year round except when the soil is frozen. They are shipped labelled and with access to planting instructions by email; a printed copy can also be requested by indicating this in the order notes section.

Shipping and delivery times

Orders are dispatched throughout the year via a 24-hour courier service, except in conditions of extreme heat or cold. The standard service is next-day delivery, with the exception of the Scottish Highlands and Islands. According to the information published at the time of analysis, plant orders received were being dispatched in the week commencing 5 October 2026, while items from the pond products section without plants could be shipped within 48 hours as they require less preparation.

Business profile

The company identifies itself as Puddleplants Limited and operates under the domain puddleplants.co.uk. Its offering is completed with gift vouchers, presented as a gift option for water gardening enthusiasts, and with the RHS Perfect for Pollinators distinction applied to some of its plants.
