About Send Me A Christmas Tree

Send Me A Christmas Tree: British Christmas trees delivered to your door

Send Me A Christmas Tree is a nursery and online shop for real Christmas trees grown in the UK. The company presents itself as a leading supplier of fresh-cut trees delivered directly to the customer's home. Its plantations are located in the Sussex countryside and in the Scottish Borders, where the team cultivates and cares for each tree throughout the year.

The project began in 2006, when Farmer Tom decided to apply his training in Agriculture and Forestry (Bangor University) by planting Christmas trees on the family farm in Sussex, which was then mainly dedicated to cattle rearing. After several years of selling from the farm itself, the online shop was launched in 2010 with the help of his brother Will. In the first year, around a hundred trees were sold; since then the business has grown to more than 100,000 individually cultivated trees across two farms. For every tree sold, the company plants at least one more.

Christmas tree catalogue

The range is organised into several categories: fresh cut trees, potted trees and trees over 12ft (about 3.6 metres). The varieties available include the following:

  • Nordman Fir: classic variety, symmetrical and bushy, with low needle drop.
  • Noble Fir: specialist variety, fragrant, bushy and with low needle drop.
  • Norway Spruce: classic variety, symmetrical, fragrant and bushy.
  • Farmer Tom's Famous Sussex Fir: specialist variety, fragrant, slim and with low needle drop.
  • Fraser Fir: specialist variety, fragrant, slim and with low needle drop.
  • Korean Fir: specialist variety, symmetrical and with low needle drop.
  • Lodgepole Pine: specialist variety, fragrant and bushy.
  • Douglas Fir: specialist variety, fragrant and with low needle drop.

Alongside the trees, the shop sells accessories such as tree stands, wreaths and lights. It also offers a selection tool to help customers choose the most suitable tree for their needs.

Delivery and how the service works

Customers can order in advance and choose a preferred delivery date close to when they want to put up their tree. Each tree is cut shortly before dispatch, so it arrives fresh at its destination. Delivery is free in mainland UK, according to the company. For changes to the delivery date, a minimum of four business days' notice is required. Order confirmations are sent automatically and usually arrive within about ten minutes.

Own cultivation and certifications

Unlike other online resellers, the company defines itself as a direct grower, with two farms in Sussex housing more than 100,000 trees individually tended throughout the year. The firm belongs to the British Christmas Tree Growers Association, an association that certifies that the trees are grown in accordance with the BCTGA Environmental Code of Practice and guarantees their freshness.

Origins and team

The company's story goes back to the childhood of its founders, who lived near a village where freshly cut trees were lined up next to the church every year. In 2006, Farmer Tom planted the first trees on the family farm. The online shop, launched in 2010, began with a small counter in the farm kitchen and a bell that rang with every order. The team, led by Farmer Tom, personally handles selection and customer service. The company that runs the business is Sussex Christmas Trees Limited.

Visiting the farm

The company allows customers to visit the farm to choose their tree in person; information about this option is available on the website sussextrees.co.uk.
