About Shires Motorcycle Training Leicester
Motorcycle training in Leicester
Shires Motorcycle Training Leicester is a motorcycle training school based in Leicester, United Kingdom. It provides training for the CBT certificate, the full licence through the Direct Access Scheme (DAS), the A2 upgrade and the Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS). The company presents itself as the largest motorcycle training school in Leicestershire and holds MCIA, KRTS and Honda approvals.
Courses and prices
The training offer is organised into several levels. The CBT course costs £199 and includes motorcycle hire; if the student uses their own motorcycle, the cost is £159. There is also a CBT renewal course (RR CBT Rider Renewal) for £135 with own motorcycle or £165 with hire motorcycle. For the full licence, the "The Works" package includes CBT, MOD 1 and MOD 2 tests, motorcycle hire and test fees for £1249. The DAS course without CBT costs £1160 and includes MOD 1 and MOD 2 tests with their fees. The A2 upgrade costs £445 and does not have online booking, so it must be arranged by phone. The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) costs £120, with a £100 supplement if one-to-one training is requested; there is a buy one get one free promotion that requires booking together and is also arranged by phone. In addition, Peace of Mind Cover is offered, details of which are provided when booking online.
Facilities and training bikes
The school has indoor classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards to reinforce theoretical training. For practical sessions it uses the latest generation motorcycles, specifically Kawasaki Z125 and Z650 models, as well as a Piaggio electric scooter.
Course conditions
The cancellation policy requires three full working days' notice for CBT and fourteen working days for all other courses; no refunds are given if cancellation occurs within those periods. Before starting training, the student must pass an eyesight test consisting of reading a car number plate at 20.5 metres (67 feet); if they wear glasses or contact lenses, they must bring them. A good command of English and ability to communicate with the instructor is required. For CBT, a valid UK full or provisional driving licence must be presented; for DAS courses, the CBT certificate and theory pass certificate are also required. The company states that all training complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act and that it strives to provide a safe environment, although it reminds that risk in riding cannot be completely eliminated and that the student is responsible for their own safety, and must be in adequate physical and mental condition, without fatigue, injuries, medications that affect riding or consumption of alcohol or drugs.
Reviews and presence
The school refers to reviews published on Google and Facebook so that interested parties can consult the opinions of other students.
