The Talbot at Knightwick is a traditional coaching inn situated on the banks of the River Teme, in Knightwick, within the county of Worcestershire and at the foot of the Malvern Hills. The establishment presents itself as an institution of the local community since the 15th century and occupies a Grade II listed building whose structure has been preserved respecting its original integrity. The decor combines rustic and warm finishes with a boutique feel that extends to the restaurant, bar, function rooms and hotel.

Family management and own production

The business is independently owned and the Clift family has managed it for forty years, supported by its own team. The kitchen is rooted in tradition and seasonal produce from the Teme Valley region, and the company states that what it cannot produce itself comes from known local suppliers. On-site there is a bakery, a kitchen garden and the Teme Valley Brewery, where the beer served at the establishment is brewed.

Restaurant and bar

The food offering focuses on seasonal dishes with a strong emphasis on traditional pub food, reworked with its own approach and attention to flavour. The main restaurant menu is served from midday to 8pm every day and changes with the seasons and by the day. Sunday lunch is made with locally sourced ingredients and offers traditional roasts from midday, subject to availability. Breakfast is open to both resident and non-resident guests: it includes a continental buffet, full English breakfast and other cooked dishes, and is served from 8am, with the possibility of an earlier start at 7am by prior arrangement. The bar serves local beers and beer brewed on-site, and has a beer garden by the river.

Accommodation

The establishment has ten en-suite boutique bedrooms, described as charming and comfortable, with bed and breakfast rates. The location is presented as a base for exploring the counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, and even for a day trip to Wales. Access by road and rail is easy and Birmingham International Airport is an hour's drive away.

The establishment has function rooms available for events and conferences, integrated into the same complex as the restaurant, bar and hotel.

Awards and reviews

The Good Pub Guide distinguished The Talbot with the Country Dining Pub of Worcestershire award in 2018. The site also includes customer reviews that highlight the staff's attentiveness, the breakfast, the beer brewed on-site, the bread from the in-house bakery, the comfort of the beds and the riverside location, as well as the warm welcome given to dogs.
