About Wedinsure
Wedinsure, wedding and civil partnership insurance in the UK
Wedinsure is a British insurer focused exclusively on the financial protection of weddings and civil partnerships. Its offering is structured into ten levels of cover ranging from £6,000 to £100,000, with premiums starting at £38.99. Policies are taken out via a single payment and the final price depends on the level of protection chosen, which must correspond to the total budget planned for the event.
What the policy covers
The standard policy includes cancellation, postponement or rearrangement of the event due to illness, injury or death of the marrying couple or a close relative, as well as adverse weather conditions such as floods, snow or natural catastrophes. It also protects against loss of deposits and payments if any of the wedding suppliers goes bankrupt, into liquidation or administration. Theft, loss or damage of key items such as ceremonial attire, gifts, rings, flowers and cake are also covered. All policies include personal liability up to £2 million as standard, extendable to public liability for an additional premium. Cancellation, postponement and rearrangement have nil excess, and professional counselling is offered.
Optional covers and extensions
Wedinsure allows extending protection with public liability up to £5 million, a wedding abroad extension, a specific COVID-19 extension, marquee cover, ceremonial swords and an excess waiver. The latter allows reducing the excess to zero across all sections of the policy by paying an additional premium. The COVID-19 extension covers death or serious illness from a confirmed diagnosis that prevents participation or attendance at the event as planned.
Exclusions and relevant updates
The published information details exclusions according to the date of purchase. Policies purchased on or after 9 March 2022 do not cover claims arising directly or indirectly from pandemics or epidemics, including COVID-19, or from circumstances in the public domain at the time of purchase, except for the cover offered under Section 1 (cancellation, postponement and rearrangement) for a confirmed positive PCR diagnosis resulting in death, serious illness or legal self-isolation of the marrying couple or direct relatives. Claims arising from government regulations, acts or legislative changes and general official guidance are also excluded. Policies taken out on or after 23 October 2020 specifically exclude all claims for pandemic or epidemic, including COVID-19, as well as those arising from government acts. For policies purchased on or before 19 March 2020, the website refers to specific information on coronavirus cover. Acts of war, government actions and fuel shortages are not covered. The wedding abroad extension offers limited cover for travel interruptions only for specific insured events, such as strikes or industrial action, adverse weather conditions or mechanical or technical failures of scheduled public transport; fuel shortages are not considered an insured event.
Purchase and claims management
Policies can be taken out a maximum of 30 months before the wedding date and must be arranged at least one month before the event. The insurer recommends taking out the policy as soon as any part of the event has been paid for and a confirmed date and venue are available, in order to protect deposits. To submit a claim, the website indicates that the claims section should be consulted and the policy schedule kept at hand. Telephone opening hours are 9:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday.
