Insect Lore Europe: educational live insect kits since 1969

Insect Lore Europe is the European division of Insect Lore, a company founded in California in 1969 that presents itself as a pioneer in live butterfly kits. The company distributes educational materials in Europe that allow users to observe in real time the metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies, as well as the life cycle of other insects. Its catalogue combines products for the home, schools and outdoor activities, with the stated aim of encouraging curiosity and supporting STEM learning.

Catalogue of kits and accessories

The range is organised into several product families. The main line is caterpillar-to-butterfly kits, which include habitats and caterpillar refills. Among the most popular products shown on the website are the Butterfly Garden with 3-5 live caterpillars, the Giant Butterfly Garden with 6-10 caterpillars and figurines, and BugLand with ladybird larvae. Ant and stick insect kits are also sold, such as the Living Twig Stick Insect Kit.

Alongside the kits, the shop offers accessories such as caterpillar refills, habitats, viewers and magnifiers, butterfly and minibeast themed products, books and entertainment materials, toys, puzzles, stamps, gardening and bug hunting items, and STEM gift cards. The website allows filtering by insect type and by categories such as "Butterflies", "Minibeasts", "Books & Fun" or "Outdoors".

Audience and educational purpose

The products are designed for children, families and classrooms. The company highlights that its kits allow users to witness the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies and that they are designed to support STEM learning and connect people of all ages with nature. The website includes customer testimonials that emphasise the educational value and the excitement of raising insects at home.
