Origins and history

The current firm stems from the merger of three practices with a long-standing presence in the Stockport and Hyde communities. Chronnell Fitzpatrick and Jones, founded in 1880, merged in 2000 with Percy Hibbert and Burden, also of Hyde. The resulting firm, Chronnel Hibbert, merged in 2014 with Hyde and Glossop-based solicitors Harrison Townend and Ormeshers, and in 2016 adopted the name HT Legal (Ltd). The company claims local roots and a client base that in some cases goes back several generations.

Services for individuals

The private client area covers residential sales and purchases, including new-build developments, mortgage subrogations and novations, transfers and releases of equity, lease extensions and trust deeds. It also provides wills and trusts, probate and estate administration, powers of attorney and deputyships, as well as trust and estate disputes and Court of Protection matters.

Services for businesses

For business clients, the firm handles commercial conveyancing, commercial leases, landlord and tenant services, commercial debt recovery and company formation.

Team

David Nuttall, solicitor, is part of the residential conveyancing team and has extensive experience in sales and purchases, including new-build houses and apartments. He maintains relationships with local estate agents and coordinates with sales offices to expedite transactions. He is also part of the family law team and is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly; he advises on powers of attorney, wills, probate and estate administration. His office is in Hyde, Market Place.

Tony Carter, solicitor, has over thirty years of experience in residential and commercial conveyancing. He has handled transactions ranging from individual houses to factories, office buildings, complex portfolio acquisitions and sale-and-leaseback deals for retail chains. Before joining HT Legal, he ran his own practice and worked at two leading firms in the north-west of England. In addition to his transactional role, he serves as the company's managing director. His office is in Hyde, Market Place.
