Preserve Media: digitising memories in Huddersfield

Preserve Media is a small family-run business based in Longwood, Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire (United Kingdom). It specialises in transferring obsolete analogue media to digital formats so that customers can enjoy their memories and preserve them for the long term. The company is known for its customer service, affordable prices and quick turnaround.

Media they digitise

The service covers a wide variety of old formats. The company states that it can convert almost any format and encourages enquiries about unlisted cases. The most common include:

• Video tapes: VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, Video8, Digital8, Hi8, MiniDV and MiniDVD.
• Cine film: 8 mm and Super-8 mm.
• Audio: cassettes, vinyl records, dictaphone tapes and reel-to-reel tapes.
• Photographs and slides: photographs, slides and negatives.

Delivery formats and how it works

The digitised results can be delivered on various media: a USB memory stick, a DVD or CD, or stored in the cloud to share the files via links. If the file is small, the company can email it. The process is organised in three steps: the customer sends the originals (well packaged and with their contact details, preferably using a signed-for service such as the post office or a courier like DPD); the company confirms receipt and digitises the material with high-end equipment; once the files are converted, the customer is contacted for payment via a secure payment link and the originals are returned along with the digital versions.

Local drop-off and postal delivery

Although the business is based near Huddersfield, it serves customers from other areas such as Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire. Local customers can drop off their media in person, although they are asked to contact first to make sure someone is available. For everyone else, the company provides a secure postal address for sending items.

Gift cards

Preserve Media offers electronic gift cards (eGift Cards) designed for those who wish to gift the digitisation of memories to someone else. The website includes a price list and a contact form for enquiries.
