About Parasol Group

Parasol Group, payroll and employment for flexible work in the UK

Parasol Group presents itself as one of the largest payroll providers in the UK, with more than 250,000 employees served. Its activity focuses on employment and payment solutions for contractors, recruitment agencies and companies, with the stated aim of managing correct, compliant and timely payments.

Employment and payroll solutions

The company structures its offering across several lines. The main one is the umbrella model, which allows self-employed workers to access benefits typical of employment, such as maternity, paternity and sick leave, as well as 28 days of paid holiday. There is an expanded version, Umbrella+, which adds services such as a 24/7 medical helpline, a discounted fuel card, tax return management and a free simple will.

For the construction sector, Parasol offers a CIS solution aimed at guaranteeing timely payment. It also has a global payroll service covering more than 180 countries, and accounting services to help workers manage their finances. The company states that it guarantees same-day payment provided it has the necessary information.

Services for agencies and companies

For recruitment agencies and end clients, Parasol Group maintains a Business Hub with resources on employment legislation, information about its services and tools such as a calculator that compares PAYE and umbrella rates, as well as Recruitment Finance and the North Star Recruitment Toolkit for agency growth. The company also offers contractors access to MyMarketplace, a platform of discounts and services covering finance, insurance, health and home buying, among others.

Take-home pay calculator

The website includes a free calculator to estimate contractors' net pay. The published calculations are based on specific assumptions: 2026/27 tax rates and thresholds, twelve months worked from 6 April 2026, 40 hours per week over 52 weeks, 28 days of annual holiday and tax code 1257L. In the umbrella model, an average margin of £15 is assumed, holiday pay is paid in advance and pensions and deductible expenses are excluded. In the limited company model, it is assumed that assignments are not subject to IR35, a flat rate VAT benefit of 15.5% in the first year, a director's fee of £229 per week, Caroola accountancy fees of £135 per month, £265 per week in expenses and 200 business miles per week.

Compliance, security and ratings

Parasol Group describes itself as a founding member of the FCSA, a sector organisation that brings together employment service providers, and places regulatory compliance at the centre of its activity to guarantee correct tax settlement with HMRC. The company holds the Cyber Essentials PLUS certification, developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), aimed at protecting user data. At the time of analysis, its Trustpilot profile showed a score of 4.7 out of 5 based on more than 4,300 reviews.

Contractor and employee support

The company maintains separate telephone channels: one for those who want to join its services, available 24 hours a day, and another for support for existing employees. Registered employees access MyParasol, a private area with an employee handbook, expenses, payslips, timesheets and holiday and absence tracking. Parasol also highlights its support team as one of the largest in the sector and offers discounts through Parasol Rewards at shops, gyms, cinemas and travel, as well as a private pension plan with an additional 11.5% contribution.
