How selling works

The process is divided into three steps. First, the user enters the registration and mileage into the free valuation tool and gets a quote in under 30 seconds. webuyanycar was founded in 2006 by Noel and Darren McKee. In 2009 it launched its first TV advertising campaign and reached 100,000 customers. In 2010 it expanded into the used van market with its sister site webuyanyvan. In 2013 the company was sold to the used car marketplace British Car Auctions (BCA), which floated on the UK stock market in 2015. In November 2019, private equity group TDR Capital completed the purchase of BCA, webuyanycar's parent company. In 2022 it launched the "Just Sold My Car" TV and radio campaign. In 2025 it reached 4.5 million customers and in 2026 it celebrated its twentieth anniversary and the purchase of its 5 millionth vehicle.

The company operates more than 550 branches in the UK, mainly at pod-style locations in retail parks and similar sites. This national network makes it possible to sell a car locally. The company has more than 1,000 employees, of whom 800 work in the store network and 200 in central support functions in departments such as marketing, transport, commercial, human resources, administration and finance.
