About Startle Gallery
Startle Gallery spans Norfolk through three different spaces: a Georgian building in Holt, a gallery near the coast in Thornham, and a location inside Jarrolds in Norwich. Contemporary art connects them, with originals, limited editions, and sculpture by British and international artists. A visit can begin with a work that catches the eye in the window or a search for a piece for a particular room.
The selection brings together different artistic approaches. There is abstract painting, landscapes, cityscapes, figurative art, wildlife, pop art, and sculpture. A Norfolk Collection adds a regional thread to the catalog. Represented artists include Danielle O’Connor Akiyama, Doug Hyde, Mr Brainwash, Richard Heeps, Tim Fowler, and Tom Butler; new works and collections change the experience both online and on the gallery walls.
Collections allow visitors to focus on a theme or perspective. Doug Hyde’s Snapshots of Summer centers on friendship and shared moments; Bernard’s work draws inspiration from sailing and life on the water. Danielle O’Connor Akiyama’s Steadfast editions bring an approach built on color and layering. These examples show how the store presents works with context beyond a list of titles and prices.
Holt is the flagship gallery, occupying three floors of a Georgian building at 10–12 Bull Street, Holt NR25 6HP. Thornham is at 10B Drove Orchards, Thornham PE36 6LS, near the North Norfolk coast. In Norwich, Startle is on the second floor of Jarrolds, 1–11 London Street, Norwich NR2 1JF. Each address offers a different way to incorporate art into an outing through the region.
Personal consultations support buyers choosing their first work or adding to a collection. They can take place in the gallery, virtually, or, where practical, at home. View on Your Wall helps shoppers visualize a piece in their space, and the gallery can bring a selection of works to the home. The conversation starts with preferences, dimensions, and atmosphere, with attention directed toward finding a piece that works in that setting.
The service includes inquiries about framing, delivery, and payments, with advertised interest-free financing subject to the applicable terms. The Journal develops stories about artists, collections, and techniques, such as Nick Veasey’s work with X-rays. This combination of exhibition, guidance, and context makes Startle an introduction to contemporary art for readers who want to take their time, get to know a work, and decide how to live with it.
