About The Log Shed

The Log Shed, kiln-dried logs with UK-wide delivery

The Log Shed is a family business based at Humberton Farm in Helperby, Yorkshire, dedicated to selling kiln-dried hardwood logs and distributing them throughout the UK. The company was established in 2008 and operates alongside the family's mixed farm, which has been worked since 1926. Brothers David and Jonathan, the fourth generation to run the farming business, set up the company after finding it difficult to source quality dry logs for the stoves in the family home.

Log and fuel products

The range centres on kiln-dried logs, with the British hardwood mix as its best-selling line. This mix comes from local sources and is made up mainly of ash, silver birch, oak and beech, with variations depending on the batch, in 8-inch logs. It is sold in classic bag and barrow bag formats, the latter for local delivery only.

The company also offers a sustainably grown stove mix, predominantly larch, also kiln-dried and supplied in 8-inch logs. The range is completed by hardwood kindling, sold in packs of three bags, coal and other fuels.

Log stores, accessories and other products

Alongside its logs, The Log Shed supplies log stores, gardeners' baskets, fireside accessories, fire pits and lighting products. The company also sells fencing, with the Octopost line among its products.

Customers and corporate supply

The company presents itself as one of the UK's leading wood suppliers to the corporate sector, with a dedicated range for customers who burn, sell or cook with its firewood. Its customers include thousands of British homes, as well as pubs, hotels, pizza restaurants and stove retailers. The team works with stove retailers and chimney sweeps to inform customers about the importance of dry wood and the right fuel for stoves and open fires.

Certification and sustainability

All the wood comes from sustainable sources and is dried in the company's own wood-fired kilns. The products hold Woodsure 'Ready to Burn' certification and pass quality controls that guarantee a moisture content below 20%, a condition the company links to greater heat output, clean burning and lower environmental impact. The company states its aim is to sell 100% British firewood and is a member of the Woodsure Ready to Burn scheme.

History and team

Since it was founded, the company has grown while continuing its arable and livestock farming operations. Its workforce includes long-serving staff: the company recently celebrated Alfred's 25 years of service and Eric's retirement after 50 years. The company says it continues to create jobs and preserve existing ones.

Delivery and coverage

The Log Shed ships throughout the UK, with free delivery on all firewood orders. Classic and barrow bags are limited to local delivery. The company states it delivers in Castleford, Huddersfield, Wakefield and Halifax, and has local suppliers and local delivery. The site displayed a notice that the office was closed until 2 January, with orders still able to be placed for delivery on its return.
