The Learning Shop

At Bluewater, The Learning Shop brings together job seekers, employers looking for staff, and North Kent training programs. The partnership includes Bluewater, North Kent Colleges Group, and the Department for Work and Pensions. Established in 1999, it provides local employment support rather than operating as a conventional recruitment agency.

For people looking for work, the team offers guidance on finding openings, preparing a resume, and practicing for interviews. It also runs employability workshops and “Working at Bluewater” sessions about job opportunities at the shopping center. Support is available one-on-one or in groups, depending on the activity and each participant’s needs.

Training is offered to schools, colleges, businesses, and individuals. Published topics include customer service, visual merchandising, and training tailored to employers. Workshops can cover specific interview skills as well as knowledge relevant to customer-facing and retail roles.

The service also connects employers with candidates preparing to enter the workforce. As Bluewater’s official jobs site, it processes around 57,000 applications and supports more than 10,000 registered job seekers each year, according to the center. Employers can also access workforce development support and share job opportunities.

Its work with North Kent Colleges Group includes young students. More than 100 North Kent College students receive help finding work each year, while students in Years 10 through 13 can access guidance, training, and job opportunities. The program connects school and college study with an early step into employment.

Bluewater’s annual job fairs bring together more than 40 employers and over 2,500 job seekers. The organization reports that more than 500 vacancies are available. These events put interviews, information about openings, and direct contact with local businesses in one place.

The center is in The Village at Bluewater in Greenhithe and is open Monday through Friday. It combines job-search guidance, workshops, employer support, and access to vacancies at the shopping complex. For someone starting out or rebuilding a job search, it offers a place to develop practical skills and explore opportunities through one service.
