About Binn Group
Binn Group, waste and resource management in Scotland
Binn Group is a family-run company based at Binn Farm, Glenfarg (Perthshire), which presents itself as Scotland's leading recycling and resource management company. Born from a family farm, the firm has evolved from waste management towards a circular economy model. The company states it has over 25 years of experience, a workforce of more than 170 employees and an annual throughput of over 100,000 tonnes of recycled waste.
Services for businesses and individuals
The activity is organised into two main areas. On the one hand, business services, aimed at waste management for organisations and companies. On the other, skip hire for domestic clearances and construction work. The company states that it handles more than 25 different waste streams and has more than 3,200 satisfied clients. It presents itself as a fully licensed waste carrier.
Binn EcoPark: a circular economy campus
Binn EcoPark is a 400-hectare site dedicated to resource transformation, clean energy and circular innovation. According to the company's information, the park processes up to 200,000 tonnes of material per year, with a recycling rate of over 90%. There, materials are returned to productive uses and businesses share infrastructure, heat and ideas. The project envisages for the next decade the generation of renewable and decentralised energy, vertical and controlled-environment agriculture, advanced material reprocessing, clean technology pilots and manufacturing clusters, as well as a private low-carbon energy distribution network.
History and management team
The company was founded by father and son John and Allan MacGregor on a Perthshire farm. What began as waste management transformed into resource management and, subsequently, into a group of teams, technologies and enterprises. The management team is headed by John MacGregor as chairman and Allan MacGregor as chief executive officer. Completing the management are Brian Harkins (managing director), David Sanderson (group finance director), Irvine Morrison (transport and operations director), Guy MacGregor (business development director), Fraser McLeod (head of sales), Kirsty McGregor (head of administration), Angus Nelson (head of transport and operations) and Ruth Fraser (head of finance).
Certifications and community commitment
Binn Group obtained PAS 402 certification, a quality standard for resource management sector operators, and presents itself as the only Scottish company to hold it at the time of publication. The company has also signed a five-year waste management contract with NHS Tayside. In the community sphere, the company takes part in more than 60 events per year and has promoted initiatives against illegal waste dumping in rural areas, in collaboration with Police Scotland.
