About Fitzpatrick Referrals
Fitzpatrick Referrals, a referral veterinary centre in Surrey
Fitzpatrick Referrals is an independent referral veterinary centre for companion animals located in Eashing, Surrey (United Kingdom). Founded by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick in 2005, the hospital is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, oncological and soft tissue diseases in small animals. Its access model requires prior referral from the primary care vet.
Clinical services and specialities
The centre offers services in routine and advanced orthopaedics, neurology, dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery, tailored anaesthesia and analgesia, advanced diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation. Advanced orthopaedics and neurosurgery include options for custom implants, joint replacements and limb salvage techniques. The rehabilitation service is focused on the effective recovery of patients. In addition, the centre provides a free radiograph reporting service to support primary care vets in the south of England.
History and evolution of the centre
The first Fitzpatrick Referrals site was established in Tilford, Surrey, where an MRI truck visited patients fortnightly. Later, the founder found a rundown farm and began work in 2005 to transform it into a specialist centre. The Eashing centre was completed in 2008 and includes a rehabilitation centre, several fully equipped operating theatres and an advanced diagnostic imaging suite. In 2009, the hospital was formally opened by the Duke of Kent and, that same year, Noel Fitzpatrick became the first veterinary surgeon in the world to successfully apply a cutting-edge amputation prosthesis (PerFiTS) to a cat named Oscar who had lost both hind legs in an accident.
Facilities and equipment
The facilities include advanced diagnostic imaging scanners, several operating theatres and a rehabilitation centre. In 2011, the wards were refurbished with bacterial-resistant wall coverings and floor surfaces, underground heating and air conditioning optimised with high-efficiency particulate air filtration to minimise the risk of infection. The reinforced glass doors, rather than gates or bars, allow a wide field of view for the animals. The centre also has a feline blood bank and offers a free radiograph reporting service for general practice vets.
Training, research and professional team
Fitzpatrick Referrals runs internship and residency programmes, as well as continuing professional development (CPD) and research activities. The clinical team is made up of vets, nurses, veterinary care assistants and surgical technicians, along with management and support staff. The organisation maintains a research centre and collaborates with human and veterinary professionals to advance scientific knowledge.
Awards and recent activity
The centre has received the BestUKVets – Best Referrals 2026 award and holds various accreditations. In 2026 it incorporated new electrodiagnostic equipment for its neurology service. Recent activity includes organising pet blood donation sessions, publishing patient clinical cases and broadcasting the Supervet ER series.
