About Hillcrest

Hillcrest: social housing and support services in Scotland

Hillcrest is a Scottish social organisation that began operating in 1967 under the name Hillcrest Housing Association. Over time it has become a diverse group bringing together several companies dedicated to housing, maintenance, and care and support services. Its stated mission is to help people live better lives, and its activity is aimed at generating a positive social impact in the communities where it operates.

The group has a presence in Angus, Dundee, Edinburgh, Perthshire, Glasgow, Fife and Aberdeen. According to its own presentation, it is one of the largest housing associations in Scotland. In addition, it holds accreditation as an employer committed to the Young Person's Guarantee and the Living Wage, and offers employment and training opportunities.

Group structure and areas of activity

Hillcrest is organised into four main companies, each with its own board of directors:

  • Hillcrest Homes: manages more than 8,000 social homes in Dundee, Edinburgh, Angus, Perthshire, Fife, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Its services include rent payments, repairs, tenancy changes, contents insurance for tenants, energy advice and financial support, among others.
  • Hillcrest Enterprises: has nearly 1,300 mid-market rent (MMR) homes adapted to different household needs.
  • Hillcrest Maintenance: provides a comprehensive trades service for void, cyclical, planned and property maintenance works.
  • Hillcrest Futures: offers care and support services to around 5,000 people, covering areas such as autism, homelessness, learning disabilities, older people, self-directed support, student support, substance use and young people. It also manages the Beacon Community Wellbeing Centre and a charity shop.

Specialised care and support services

Hillcrest Futures details a portfolio of services aimed at specific groups: people with autism, people experiencing homelessness, people with learning disabilities, older people, young people and students, as well as self-directed support and substance use recovery programmes. The organisation also drives community initiatives such as the Beacon Community Wellbeing Centre and participates in awareness campaigns, such as activities supporting International Overdose Awareness Day.

Hillcrest has maintained an 'Exemplary' ESG rating according to its own statement, as part of its progress in sustainability. The entity has a foundation, Hillcrest Foundation, which channels resources and events for the community.
