About Phoenix Motorcycle Training
Phoenix Motorcycle Training: motorcycle training in the UK
Phoenix Motorcycle Training is a motorcycle training school with a presence throughout the UK. Founded in 1999, the company was acquired in 2019 by Mark Jaffe, who continues to lead it with a focus on training quality and customer service. The school presents itself as the largest and highest-rated in the country, with more than twenty centres and a fleet of over one hundred motorcycles from brands such as Triumph, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Fantic.
Its activity is aimed at both new riders and experienced riders who want to improve their skills or expand their licences. The company states it has a high first-time pass rate in the module 1 and module 2 practical tests, attributed to the quality of its instructors and equipment. A large part of its clientele comes through recommendations.
Courses to obtain a motorcycle licence
The training offer covers the entire process to obtain a motorcycle licence in the UK. The CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course is the starting point and is priced from £200, varying by centre. For those who already have the CBT certificate, there is CBT Plus, from £160, which allows further development of the skills acquired. The PreCBT course, from £45 per hour, is designed for those who have already ridden a motorcycle and want to prepare before taking the CBT.
For the full licence, the school offers Direct Access (DAS) training, a split test course from £930, with prices varying by centre. It also offers the Fast Track course, aimed at experienced riders, from £895.50, which runs on consecutive days and culminates with both parts of the practical test. Training is complemented by modules 1 and 2: module 1 covers manual handling, slow manoeuvres and general control on a closed circuit, while module 2 focuses on road skills, such as normal stops and angled starts, with a test on public roads.
Advanced training and experiences
For full licence holders, Phoenix offers advanced training from £200, with options to work on specific aspects of riding or improve the overall experience. The PROskills programme is structured in three levels: Introduction from £99, Road from £299 and Advanced from £598, with prices varying by centre. In addition, the school organises introductory trail riding courses in Salisbury Plains, Kent, the Peak District and West Pennines, designed for those who want to get started in legal green laning even if they do not have a trail bike.
Other experiences include Try Ride, a one-hour session for £45 to try motorcycling with safety equipment included and 50cc or 125cc bikes, and Try Ride-NYRF, with the same price and duration, in which the National Young Rider Forum funds 50% for people aged 16 to 24, with prior online learning. The Getting on a Bigger Bike course is also offered from £55 to experience larger-capacity motorcycles in a safe environment.
Instructor training and TfL courses
The school provides training to become a motorcycle instructor, with two high-quality courses and prices from £960. It also collaborates with Transport for London (TfL) on courses such as 1-2-1 Motorcycle Skills, free sessions funded by TfL for people with a full licence or CBT certificate who live, work or study in any of the 33 London boroughs.
Benefits programme and community commitment
Phoenix Rewards is a customer benefits programme that offers discounts on clothing, motorcycles and safety products, as well as membership to Bike Social, thanks to agreements with specialist suppliers. The school also shows its support for Mental Health Motorbike, an initiative that seeks to eliminate the stigma of talking about mental health and uses the love of motorcycles as a tool to start conversations.
Centre network and fleet
The company operates more than twenty training centres distributed across the UK, allowing students to find a local centre. The training motorcycle fleet exceeds one hundred units and includes models from Triumph, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Fantic. The school states that it constantly updates its fleet.
