Doddington Hall & Gardens
Elizabethan house and estate in Lincolnshire with gardens, collections, walks, Grain Store, shops, padel, cycling, and accommodations.
About Doddington Hall & Gardens
Doddington Hall preserves an Elizabethan house in the Lincolnshire landscape and places it within an estate combining gardens, dining, shops, and activities. The house was completed in 1600 for Thomas Tailor and has remained associated with successive families for more than four centuries. Its history explains part of a visit, but the present estate also accommodates a walk, a meal, a sports activity, or a stay in its accommodations.
The property’s chronology describes interiors redecorated by John Hussey Delaval in the 1760s and collections of paintings and furniture connected with that period. Tapestries, military uniforms, artwork, and other objects form part of the estate’s heritage. The house remains a family home, with seasonal opening for visitors. In October 2026, it is closed until Christmas at Doddington, announced for November 11–December 31; the gardens follow a different calendar.
Five acres of gardens surround the house, with the Kitchen Garden and West Garden as distinct areas. Wilder Doddington adds walks and learning experiences connected with the landscape, while estate walks provide another form of outdoor visit. Autumn programming includes pumpkin picking in October. The choice of season changes what can be explored and the available activities.
Dining provides several places to gather. Grain Store combines a café, restaurant, and bar; Farm Shop Café serves breakfasts, lunches, drinks, and cakes. Afternoon tea has its own dates and reservations. The Farm Shop sells food products, while Doddington at Home and Doddington Country Clothing offer home goods and clothing. Shops, cafés, and estate walks are free to visit; the house, gardens, and selected experiences charge admission.
Activities include padel courts, coaching, bike rentals, and cycling routes, with Giant Lincoln Bike Shop as a reference point. The Georgie Twigg track connects the estate with the cycling network from Lincoln. Accommodations are distributed among cottages and other spaces such as Holly Farm, Delaval Rooms, and The Brewhouse. Weddings and business events use venues including the Coach House and Grain Store, with specific celebration and accommodation arrangements.
Road access uses the B1190, with signs from the A46 and A57. Free parking and electric-vehicle chargers are available near Grain Store. Doddington Hall allows visitors to choose among heritage, landscape, and activities on one estate; distinguishing house visits from the opening of gardens, shops, and restaurants is essential when organizing a visit.
