About Jerry Can Spirits

Jerry Can Spirits, small-batch British spiced rum

Jerry Can Spirits is a British distillery founded by two Royal Corps of Signals veterans who, between them, have 17 years of service. The company produces Expedition Spiced Rum, a 40% ABV spiced rum presented in a 700 ml bottle, made in numbered small batches with natural ingredients and no artificial flavourings.

Expedition Spiced Rum: composition and character

The rum is macerated with Madagascan vanilla, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, orange peel, cloves, cassia and agave. The company states that it uses no artificial flavourings and that these are the only ingredients. On the palate, according to the IWSC judging notes, the profile opens with a hint of coconut that gives way to vibrant ginger and citrus, with nuances of gingerbread and winter spices. The company itself describes an opening of Madagascan vanilla, followed by Ceylon cinnamon and ginger, with a smooth finish of cassia and cloves.

Awards and results

In its first year, the brand won two medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2026: bronze for Expedition Spiced Rum and silver for Expedition Spiced Rum with cola, the latter judged alongside Franklin and Sons. The company also states that it is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and holds the Bronze award of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.

Recipes and cocktail guide

The brand publishes its own recipe book, the Field Manual, with cocktails measured in 25 ml and 50 ml. Among the proposals are Explorers Gold (50 ml Expedition Spiced Rum, 25 ml honey syrup, 25 ml fresh lemon juice and one egg white, with two dashes of Angostura and lemon peel), Storm & Spice (50 ml rum floated over 150 ml ginger beer and 15 ml fresh lime juice, with two dashes of Angostura, a lime wedge and crystallised ginger) and The Old Standard (50 ml rum, 10 ml demerara syrup, two dashes of Angostura and one of orange bitters, stirred and served with orange peel).

Frequently asked questions about the product

The company clarifies that the rum is suitable for coeliacs, as it is distilled from sugar cane or molasses. It notes that spiced rum is suitable for those new to spirits, because the spices and vanilla smooth out the harsher edges. It distinguishes its product from dark rum: the latter gets its colour and flavour from barrel ageing, with notes of molasses, oak and dried fruit, while spiced rum is macerated with botanicals and offers vanilla, cinnamon and ginger up front. It recommends drinking it neat or over ice, or mixed with ginger beer, cola or in punch.
