Cosmic Campervans is a family-run workshop specialising in converting vans into camper vehicles, based in Derby (United Kingdom). The company has been operating since 2017 and has converted more than 1,000 vans, according to its own published figures. Its work focuses on full conversions and individual installations on specific van models.

Van models they convert

The workshop works on four main platforms, in both short and long wheelbase:

• VW Transporter (T5 to T6.1), in SWB or LWB versions.
• Ford Transit Custom (2012-2026+), including the new V710, in SWB or LWB.
• Renault Trafic, with a practical layout for short or long wheelbase.
• Vauxhall Vivaro, which shares its base with the Trafic.

The company states that if the customer's vehicle is not among these, they can enquire; if it is not the right workshop for it, they will say so.

The Cosmic Orion package

The full conversion is sold under the name Cosmic Orion, at a single price of £24,995 (VAT included) for short and long wheelbase on all compatible platforms. This is the conversion only: the customer supplies the van. The package includes:

• Pop top & beds: elevating pop top with 3-window canvas, bi-fold roof bed and self-inflating mattress; RIB 112cm fixed-frame rear seat/bed in Standard Bricks trim.
• Kitchen & living: Aether furniture in the standard laminate range with standard worktop, Dometic NRX50 fridge, MO922R double burner with sink, fresh water tank with 12V pump, gas locker and fittings, and Vanshades blinds.
• Power: 105Ah lithium battery, Victron DC/DC charging, 200W solar, 240V hook-up with two mains sockets, 12V socket and USB-C/A charging, Montana control panel and full wiring harness.
• Warmth & quiet: full-vehicle sound deadening, insulation and carpet lining, 12mm ply floor with Altro covering, LED strip lighting and an Autoterm 2kW diesel heater.

The package supports additional options, such as the Off-Grid or Mobiframe modules, and individual extras.

Individual services and components

As well as full conversions, Cosmic Campervans carries out standalone installations. Among the services it details are pop tops, solar and off-grid power systems, diesel heating, carpet lining, window fitting, awnings and rails, and security systems. It also offers Mobiframe bed systems. Each job is quoted individually.

Process and warranty

The process is structured in four stages: initial contact to find out about the vehicle and the customer's needs; defining the project with layout, options and an itemised quote; the build at the Dunstall Park Road workshop, covering insulation, electrics, gas and furniture; and handover, where every switch, tap and fuse is reviewed with the customer. The company offers a two-year warranty on all its work, in addition to the warranties from component manufacturers such as the pop top. The components it uses include TÜV-certified beds, Victron electrics and Autoterm heating.
